So are you finding the car tends to push, neutral or understeer? I have not autocrossed since around 2003. Keep thinking about giving it another go, but feel I might be unsatisfied with the amount of inside wheel spin under power.Lots of firsts here...
First Autocross with a 6 speed manual.
First Autocross with the GT.
First Autocross in FWD class.
First time being in top 10.
First podium finish, 2nd place, out racing TWO Hyundai Elantra N's.
Let's go!
I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. It is front wheel and acts like a front wheel drive car, that's no joke. But if you can get comfortable throwing one through a corner, you'll be very happy with the GT. This car has no significant amount of torque steer throughout the power band. As long as you are easing the throttle along with the boost to keep it hooked, as opposed to smashing the throttle to the ground when coming out of a corner, she won't have excessive wheel spin.So are you finding the car tends to push, neutral or understeer? Agreed- even my FE rotates beautifully off throttle.I love coming in hot and using lift off oversteer in this car, or stabbing the brakes and getting hard back on the throttle; it rotates nicely.
Ah, those Saabs were something else. Such an odd car. Clutch replacement? 45 minutes. Alternator? 4 hours. My car has minimal understeer and some oversteer if I want... it’s a nice balance you usually don’t see on a front wheel drive car. Don’t laugh but the only other front wheel drive car I experienced that has similar characteristics is the Saab 900s from the 80s
Haha... with the most complicated “oil pan” on the planet.Ah, those Saabs were something else. Such an odd car. Clutch replacement? 45 minutes. Alternator? 4 hours.
Yes you can... I commute in mine so my tires are conservative all seasons but it’s capability is shocking. All my old autocross cars were under between 2400 - 2800 lbs, I would put a 19 or 20mm rear swaybar and R compund rubber and was able to throw the back end around while the inside rear tire was an inch or two off the ground. I love this 23 Forte just not sure I will be able to toss it around like that
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4's that came with my manual are AWESOME even in the wet. I think that's the biggest reason I had an edge over a bunch of the other cars. When they moved the water out of the way enough for my tires to catch the concrete, it was easy to keep it planted, so long as I was on top of throttle control. All my old autocross cars were between 2400 - 2800 lbs, I would put a 19 or 20mm rear swaybar and R compound rubber and was able to throw the back end around while the inside rear tire was an inch or two off the ground. Do it! I'd love to do some events in my car too - just have to find the time this summerMaybe I will hit an event or two this summer and put the PS4s through a couple of beatings.
I destroyed two of the Khumos and bent three wheels. I took the opportunity and replaced all four with Pilot Sport 4S. Superb tire! I have been a BMW Car Club member since 2001 but had a hiatus of over 10 years and reinstated my subscription. There are some autocross and others activities on the schedule. I have never been good at autocross, but willing to try again. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4's that came with my manual are AWESOME even in the wet.
