Keep finding my trunk open

Does this happen to any of you guys? Probably 3 or 4 times now I've gone out to my car in the morning and found the trunk popped. I guess I'm accidentally hitting the fob when I lay down on the couch or something?

This is only slightly less worrisome than my old car, where I would accidentally roll down the windows if I wasn't careful with the fob :(

It happened to me once when I went to unlock my doors after going to the store,
I drove away and then looked down and saw the light on the dash Pulled over to close the trunk all was well again lol
Opps.
Sometimes when I get in and out of the car my foot hits the latch for the trunk
oh AND i went out one following morning to find both my windows down
lol i was like oooohhhh shiiiit! but thank god i have a decent community in my neighborhood and nothing was taken
OP same here...several times we've found our trunk lids open. I think it is the way the key remote is designed -- if you keep your keys in your pocket somehow the button gets pushed. Happened with our Optima (same type key remote) but not with our Spectra (different design key remote).
happened to me once at work with my ps3 (to be repaired) and my new macbook pro (to be returned later in the afternoon). when i got out of work i was like - efffff. but nothing was taken.

Yikes, that would of sucked. I've never had this happen but I don't like to carry anything in my pockets especially my keys.
I've had it happen a several times too - between work, home, or a buddy's/gf's house. Luckily it hasn't been anywhere more open like a mall or restaurant yet.
It's the key fob. My mom owns a Sonata - same key fob, same problem.
It doesn't happen often enough to be too annoying, though.
Revisiting this thread...came home today to find the wifes Sedan's trunk wide open. I just disconnected the wires to the lock mechanism to stop this -- don't want this to be a continuous problem. Wish Kia hadn't changed the Key remote - never has happened with my Spectra for the last 4 years (Spectra has a different design key remote)!

If there are any Kia Techs available which wire(s) go to the trunk-open warning light on the dash. I want to keep the remote trunk feature disabled but keep the warning light working. Thanks!
I'm not sure it's the fob, honestly, well for me anyway. Although I'm also not 100% sure it isn't.
1st time, I was working nightshift and had to go down to the basement to check the generator. Of course, being new I had to check out my car. I didn't take the car keys. Boot was DEFINITELY closed.

Shift ended, got to the car and the boot was open.

2nd time, was at the shops. Got out, took bags out of boot, closed boot and locked car. Dropped the keys into my very wide open pocket. I'm almost certain there is no pressure to push the button there, and definitely not for the 1.5-2 seconds needed to pop it.
Got back, boot open. Nothing stolen.

Anything's possible (I'm meaning that the button was somehow pressed, or colleagues playing pranks), but odd. Regardless of why, I guess I'm going to avoid leaving anything of value in the trunk, not something I planned for when getting a brand new car.
I don't think it's anybody playing a prank, might be getting a signal from someone else's garage door opener. I watched the wife lock the car when we left today and the trunk was visibly open when we got back -- it was not forced open. It's just happened too many times -- I disconnected the wire to the lock mechanism...I'd like to just disconnect the unlock feature -- I think it is the middle wire -- anybody know what L/B for a wire color stands for? Lime w/Blue stripe maybe?

This happened to us on our 08 Optima too...same type key remote. My Koup has done it occasionally to. If you take the key/remote and fold it over itself the key and/or ring hits the trunk button just right...I'm guessing when it is in your pocket and you sit down it gets pressed continuous sometimes.

Hi! I was wondering did you ever figure out the problem with your vehicle? I have a Kia Optima 2012 EX and for about a week now my trunk opens on its own like every two minutes. I will go outside and close it and then come in and go right back out to check on it and it's open again. I tried calling the Kia dealership but they weren't able to tell me anything. I haven't driven my vehicle since this has started so my key fob is hanging on a keyring thing. Last night, I went to look in my car for something and the battery was dead and I had to jump it off. Please Help!!!
