My forte was running fine for the first thousand miles until I ran into a problem with my accelerator. I barely had to press on the accelerator to have the rpm get passed 3000 but while I was driving recently, I noticed that i needed to gas the accelerator all the way down in order for me to get to even 3000 rpm. It feels and sounds like the engine is being overworked but the car accelerates very slowly and there is a delay in response time. Before this problem the car ran perfectly fine. The car now just stays at 2000 rpm and doesnt go any higher unless i gas it all the way. But when i tried to drive it in tiptronic, i noticed that it drives normally but the problem only occurs when its on drive. Does anyone know of this problem? Any feedback would be of great help. Thank you.

If you can't get it over 3000 rpm it's probably in "Limp Mode", get it to the dealer right away!

Limp Mode kicks in if the computer detects a major malfunction and restricts the rpm to 3000 but still lets you "Limp" the car in for service.

shouldn'tve posted this twice but it sounds like it may be something with the ecm/ecu if it behaves normally in tiptronic but badly just in "D"
I'm glad you said that about tiptronic also because my first though was auto or manual?
Def go to the dealer, and to me it sounds like they'll either just need to reflash the ecm (maybe shift points got screwed up or something, if it was always in the highest gear it would behave like that, as opposed to driving it by tiptronic where your shifting up through the gears)

auto trans computer is built into the ecm/ecu on these I'm assuming?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Yeah I thought it had something to do with the ecu but wasn't sure if that was the problem. I don't know if the car is in limp mode though because it does go over 3000 rpm but I have to gas it then wait for it to get to 3000. It was so crazy because it happened out of nowhere on the road as I was driving and felt the difference immediately.

I have the same issue... Lag! Cruising along and try to accelerate.. Push the peddle a bit... Nothing. A bit more... Nothing more again and it finally downshifts and accelerates. Sound like the same problem?

Asked the regional manager about it, and he told me that it was because the throttle is controlled electronically.... In other words.. There is no throttle cable at all. All electronic. Seems to be a big issue with the automatic transmission.

All I can think of is that the mass air sensor is faulty. Have you popped open the airbox where the air filter is? Try seeing if anything is caught in it. Is the "check engine" light on?
Well, whatever the case may be take it to the dealer promptly.

Shouldn't the check engine light be on if it is a computer or sensor problem? I have never heard of this problem b-4, and my Forte EX has only 1500 miles on it, and I have the 2.0 with the 4speed auto. (Hey, I got it new for $13,500 after rebates, fully loaded EX model).

So, if there is a defect or a problem that a lot of owners have had please post here on how you/they fixed it! Thanks and good luck!

Sounds like limp mode to me. As to why you can drive it normally in tiptronic I do not know, maybe limp mode doesn't affect tiptronic?
Find a friend with a scanngauge or any decent programmer and have them clear any codes. Not all codes will turn on the CEL, as evidenced in my buddy's Jetta. It went into limp mode, but no light. He cleared the code and it was all good after that.

Hi everyone,

I'm having an acceleration issues as well. I need your opinion. It has it's good days and bad days.. I drive a 2014 KIA forte EX.. It only has 1000 some miles on it. I got it brand new.

When I slightly accelerate, the rpm seems to get stuck at 2000 or 2500 for a couple of seconds maybe like 6-8.. Then it quickly jumps to 3000 and the pressure on the pedal is still the same... Especially when I'm trying to pass someone on the freeway I end up almost fully throttling it coz it seems to lag on picking up the speed and the rpm doesn't coordinate with what I'm trying to do.. Then it gets stuck and there's a loss of power..

Yesterday when i was driving uphill going to school... My car didn't let me go pass 35 mph! My car felt very heavy and it struggled a lot. The rpm was stuck between 2000-2500. Everyone flew by me! Finally when I got to the top, there was a bad smell coming from the hood... Thought my hood was going to overheat, thankfully it didn't.. I used to drive a 03 corolla and it ran better on the same hill with no struggle at all...

Any advice will be appreciated!

Best advice... Go to the dealer and use the warranty. Cause is possibly a few things. Anything from bad gas to a major issue.
