Not sure if this has been posted yet but for all those with 2011 and 2012 KIA's with factory navigation can now upgrade to version 5 North America from MapnSoft. They have finally reduced the price and it is now a reasonable $99 from $199 until Dec.31/2012.

Not possible from what I've seen. I setup the Nav update deployment for my dealership, which was basically copying the files from a disc to a USB drive that plugs into the unit.

In order to use the update, it requires a unique key from Kia (or Mapnsoft, whichever) plus a hardware ID that is given to generate the key.

Bullshite that we have to pay anything for an update. IMO of course.

Actually, I just called Mapnsoft and asked them - theoretically - if my brother purchased a map USB stick in the US and had not yet applied it to his car whether I could use it instead (in Canada) and she said yes, as long as he had not yet called in to them to get the code for it (which you do after you have received the stick - at that time you call into them with your vehicle ID and then you get a code that ties your order ID to that map installation).

Anyway, it's only $100, so not the end of the world, but it sounds like it should work.

So, the map ordered from the US at 50% off worked fine on my Forte Koup here in Canada.

In addition to the map update, the interface has a few new tweaks as well, but the installation takes quite a long time and cannot be interrupted. The instructions stated it could be as long as 150 minutes. I thought this sounded ridiculous and asked them about it when I got my installation code and she said it was how long it *could* possibly take. Suggested I leave the key in the ignition and hook up a battery charger. Yeah, not gonna do that.

Anyway, some other Kia vehicle posts on the OEM nav stated it took about an hour, so I started it up for my commute home (which is usually around 45 minutes) and I only had to wait in the driveway for maybe ten minutes for it to finish up when I arrived, so that's about right. Made for a boring drive as the entire head unit is offline while it updates, and you lose your radio presets, but your navigation points and settings (home, favourites, etc) stay in place.

i think it's crap that we have to update our navi's anyway. what's the point of paying all that money for something you have to send an extra 200 a year on anyway? almost worth it to buy a better headunit. like ones that can play dvd's and built in back up camera capabilities.

I'd like to see a 3rd part head unit like that 8" screen the new Sorento is getting.

I agree with sxey. There is something really disturbing about paying 200bones for a piece of crap software that takes 2+ hours to side load byte by byte.

For that much money, I'd spend it on a superb Samsung Galaxy Note2 and slap some scotch tape to hang it on top of the navi head unit!

KIA Nav updates on sale again for $99 from MapnSoft until April 30th. Hopefully the sale applies to Canada as well this time, I emailed them and will post back with the response.

FYI
Just received an email from MapnSoft. The 2013 Fortes WILL NOT receive V5 Nav update. I am waiting to hear back why the 2012 are updated and the 13's are not - they did say all Nav updates are in the 4th qtr of the year.

The update is simple. You plug the USB stick into the unit, go to the setup menu, and enter the code they will give you (tied to your VIN) when you call in to activate the USB stick.

The problem is that it takes about an hour to update (they say it can take up to three hours) and you cannot stop the process and start it again later, so your head unit has to remain powered up the whole time.

I did mine on a drive home from work. You will also have no access to any other feature of the head unit (radio, CD, AUX, etc.) while the update runs.

This looks interesting...

I have not tried it yet but looks like standard stock kia nav to me. Anything would be better than mapnsofts ripoff maps that are at best hit or miss.
