To The Kia Guy, I'm on Megan street coils with the rears cut to my ride height. Also since it was asked before I'm running SPC shims in rear.
I just ordered the Megans, I really want to have it cambered in the rear, to avoid rubbing and also for the look of course. However, I am I die hard fan of good handling, I love cornering, my only fear is that the shims may not be very performance friendly. I'm not speaking on fact or on what i've heard, I just feel as though shims will not be ideal for good handling. Any input?

The shims are kind of an interesting subject. While they have been a tried and true source of camber for the VW community for everything from looks to autocross, there are still a few things to consider that may not be obvious. One of which is the fact that you are actually spacing the wheels out slightly, which of course is compounded when stacking shims as well. While that's not much of an issue for most it's a significant consideration for people like me who obsess over fitment and poke. So if you're chasing more and more chamber, you're adding more and more of a spacer.

The other thing to consider is toe. These shims from SPC consist of two rotating rings that you align to set both camber and toe. Which you may think would be a no-brainer but if you look at the first photo I posted of my car you can see that the rear wheels seem to be centered a bit forward inside the rear wheel arches. That's due to the way the rear axle is hinged. You'll also find this is a common VW issue if you do some research. It's no big deal, and really not even a negative, but it is something to consider. The reason why you want to consider this is on a car as low as mine is because the shims are actually tilted forward slightly when the car is on the ground which means that unless you accounted for it, you can be adding in undesirable toe at the same time.

Just something to consider.

nice clean looking car.

First off, the thread was awesome.
Second, Your car is great and is most definitely in my top 5 favorite fortes, top 5 becasue its a 5 way tie lol
Third, you should have just posted in FOTM.

Continue to post pics as it progresses if you continue to do work on it, though, there isn't much more i would do to it, at least for looks.

Thanks for the pics!

Heating the fenders, rolling them, then rapidly cooling them will do one of two things since we know very little about the mystery metal that these cars are built from. If it's quality steel then it should harden, preserving the freshly modified shape. If it's lesser quality steel then it may warp, potentially cracking the paint as well.

My wheels are Varrstoens in 17 x 9 + 22 size, Hyperblack finish. In the future I believe I'll be trying to go much wider in the rear, there's plenty of room.
So then 9s fit no problem? All I've seen on here is people saying they wont fit -_______-

Cleaned up the garage a little bit today:

Love your garage *drool* @~@

Also, really awesome koup, best I've seen yet. The shims info is extremely useful. Also, if you dont mind my asking, hows the rear ride since you modified the coils? Harsh at all?
