Manual Transmission sticking

5092 Views 15 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Rainyraven
This morning I drove my Koup and I noticed that from first to second gear was sticking and was hard to shift. After a while the shifting was very smooth. Could this happened because of the cold weather? Any advice could be helpful.

Thanks!

All my cars were all sticks, but since I lived in Puerto Rico, and the temperature is a perfect 90 degrees over there, I never had this happened to me before.
yes my car is also hard to shift on cold mornings.. once it warms up its good..
if you let the car warm up when you first start it up and hold the clutch in and mock shift it a few times that seems to help a little..
Cool
Thanks Rainy Raven!
Welcome to North Carolina! hah! Happens to me every morning :/
Yup, definitely noticing some morning stiffness here, too. And not the good kind.
pushing into 2nd gear when cold seems to be the worst. If you push too hard, there's that loud noise. If you don't push hard, it seems to take ages for the 2nd gear to go in.
well- had to toss my 2 cents in
here in florida we are going thru a cold wave- temps got down to 47 deg F
but hey!- no problems shifting-
and i gotta admit- i was a laughing at the heated leather seats bit when i bought the lil sexy koup in june....
however- this coldsnap has made me happy - those heat warmers are nice :)
Change your transmission fluid to synthetic...the morning stubbornness will improve.
I've noticed the same thing here. It's been in the 40s here in the morning and it takes a minute or two before shifting feels smooth. I agree it's mainly going from first to second.
i was having that issue and it got completly worse. Mine is hard to go into 2nd and when it does go in it grinds alot. Brought it to Kia and they said its the transmission. Apparently a bunch of fortes are having transmission problens,

this reminds me of my old eclipse.. only eclipse transmissions were much worse..

when did your car start grinding? how many miles are on it?
and last but most important what was your dealerships actions.. when and how are they going to fix your car?

Hope they take care of your car soon.
The car is brand new, I got it only has 6,000 miles. The first time i brought it, it was when I went to get an oil change, I mentioned the problem to them and they told me they were going to look at it. After the oil change was finished they said that their technician had no idea what it could be and he was going to have to do some research they said they would call me when they came up with something. After waiting about two week for the technician to figure out what the problem was, and no word back from them I called them and they tp me to go in on the following monday (i called on friday) I went in, they checked what they had to check again and they told me that the problem was with the transmission and they were going to order a new one thru the warranty. They said they would order it and call me and let me know when I would have to bring it in to get fixed. A week goes by and I heard nothing from them, so the next monday I called them and they told me that they had to check one more thing before they could order the transmission. So i had to wait another week to be able to go in, I went in on the following monday and they told me they would give me a call when the car was done on the next day (keep in mind they were only going to check something, and the car needed to stay there overnight) I told them that I wasnt going to leave the car unless they gave me another one for the night because i needed to go to work. So they said ok ill have the technician look at it in 5 minutes. As soon as they took in the car, it took the technician 10 minutes to say that i would need a new transmission and that they were going to order it.

That was last monday, today is monday again. I called them to get some kind of idea when i could expect to bring in the car and they have been avoiding my calls all day.

When i brought the car in the first time it only had about 4,000 miles on. they have been avoiding the whole situation for almost a month now.

Not to mention the other problems the car is giving me, starting to give up on this car and this company.

The guy at the shop even told me that the forte cars are starting to come up with this transmission issue and hes wondering why kia hasn't put out a recall yet.

Sucks to hear. Can't you demand they fix it or you return the car? That is absolutely unacceptable. Isn't there a lemon law/clause here?
@ Trocha,
I'd call kia's head office if you don't here anything today since its friday, this is just bullcrap!
I'm very sorry to hear your getting the run around with the dealership, and don't give in.. stay firm *they already amitted there was a fault to you*
There should be a lot more help from a company you just spent so much money at!

Thxs for sharring and keep us posted on how things go. I sincerly hope to hear good news about this sooner then later..
good luck
