I bought an LED to light the iPod tray and I want to hide the wire. I want to tap into the existing wire for the gear shift lights, that way the LED only comes on when I turn on the exterior lights. I just can't figure out how to take the panel off to get to the wire? Can someone please explain, in detail.

UPDATE:
So I finally got it installed. Tried to run the wire to the fuse box but didn't have an add a circuit. So I tapped into the wire for the dimmer and grounded it on a close by bolt. Works as it should. I'm guessing there is another wire that controls the dimming part bc I cannot dim the LED. It's ok, the light isn't too bright....for now. Thank you everyone who replied back with suggestions. You guys rock.

well, i can tell you how to wire it up so it turns on when the key is in the on position. Just run the wiring to the fuse box, find the fuse for the speedometer, i would buy a add a circuite to make it easier, attach the positive wire to the fuse, then just ground the negative wire to a bolt near the fuse box and it will turn on and off with the car

That's an easier option. But I'd really like it to only be on when I turn the lights on. Don't really need the light during the day. Thanks for this option though.

You could do that or just run a wire to the fuse he was talking about an adding a switch to turn the LED off and on. Adding the wire where you want might just be harder than you think and costly if somthing messes up. Ive been wanting to add one there!

Checked KGIS (thanks Fox) got the panel off. I decided to run the wire to the dimmer itself. There are five wires coming off that: Pink, two grays and two blacks. I cannot find which wire is which on KGIS or anywhere else.
If I do the add a circuit way, I'm just as lost?? I'm new to the wiring thing and haven't done any mods myself before. Thanks for the help and patience.

Here i figured out how to wire it it up to turn on/off with your headlights. Same setup like i said but different fuse. Here i take some pictures. In my hand is the Add a Circuite. The fuse on the bottome right is were your going to put the AAC, then attach the postive to the AAC then ground the negative the chassis
