New Forte SX owner

Hello everyone,

After a few weeks of research, and lurking around these parts, I've purchased a Black Forte SX - figured I'd introduce myself here, as I'll probably be around for awhile.

A little history... I had been considering purchasing both new and used vehicles. I was looking at either the Mazda 3 hatchback (2007-2009 - I dislike the styling of the new models), Corolla XRS or a Volkswagen Golf.

I had test drove each and was sold on the Mazda 3, however, I discovered that the interest rates to finance a used vehicle were much higher than purchasing a new vehicle. The average rates on a used vehicle here in Ontario were between 6-11%.

Given that, I figured that perhaps it was best to buy new and take advantage of the full warranty. Obviously the only issue with this plan was my dislike for the new Mazda 3 model. It was at this point that I discovered the Forte Koup.

I went in to test drive it, and ended up being partial to the sedan (more practical for my purposes). I was also not a fan of the chrome/black wheels which were standard on the Koup.

After much negotiation, and a few trips to different dealers in my area, I settled on a Black Forte SX sedan. I'm still not entirely sure that I got a great deal, but in the end, I'm happy with the vehicle and the options that it offers.

I never thought I'd be a KIA owner, but I must say, this is the nicest KIA model I've seen to date (and has received many compliments). For the money, you just can't be the performance, features, and overall styling of the Forte.

I've seen a few price requests on here, so I figured I'd share a breakdown of the price I got - again, while not entirely convinced I got a great deal, I'm happy with the end product.

Black Forte SX Sedan, Automatic

Includes:

  • All features of the SX (in Canada), leather, moon roof, 17" wheels, etc.
Additions:

  • Winter tires and wheels, installed
  • Rear spoiler, painted and installed
  • Remote car starter, installed
  • Tint job, lowest legal amount
  • iPhone/iPod adapter
Final price, after tax and all fees: $27,500.00 (CAD)

I'll have to get some pictures in the near future - it's a bit dirty at the moment (Canadian winter and all...)

Welcome to the forum! Can't wait to see some pics.
Welcome! Send me your summer wheels and I'll send you back my Koup wheels! :)

Enjoy your Forte...they're great.

Thanks, but I think you might have misunderstood - I really like the 17" Sedan wheels, not so much the Koup wheels. So, I think I'll stick with mine. ;)
Welcome Alexm! You will no doubt really enjoy your new SX. I love mine! I got the car with no add-ons but in a manual transmission for $21,000 before taxes and fees. I think it worked out to close to $25,500 after everything. Since automatic is around $1000 plus the winter tires/wheels($800), spoiler($400), car starter($500), tint ($200), I think you got a really good deal! Obviously I am estimating the prices of the goodies you got added onto your car, but still it looks like you paid around $2000 more than me and if $1000 was for the automatic transmission, then you only paid $1000 for your extras which could all be worth around $1900 or more! Great deal!

Well that's good to hear.

Thanks for the feedback.
Welcome. Alexm. I got the Sedan Sx in fl. It started at 18,900 with A/T 5 speed, black and red interior and all the sx goodies :) and after trade in it was around 14000..
EX 5spd w/sunroof - $21,000 and change after taxes. 5 year 0.9% financing to boot. The dealer was not thrilled in the end. I told him what I wanted my bi-weekly payment to be and asked them to work whatever magic they had to give me that price. Plus, someone screwed up and undercoated my car (I did not want to pay the dealer price), so I got that for free.

Tint+winter tires/wheels - $950, taxes in.

So In the end, I paid a bit over $22,000 for the EX. Bottom line is, you didn't get too bad of a deal, considering the EX/SX price difference and other stuff that I didn't get, but only if you have the AT model.

If you got the starter at the dealer, you overpaid about a $100. If you got the winter tires and wheels at the dealer, you overpaid about $300. If you got the tint at the dealer, you overpaid about $50. Dealer-installed upgrades are their only real moneymakers, which is why I declined them all.
