For a while now, there has been a strange noise when engaging first gear and moving from a stopped position. As I let the clutch out, it makes a sound almost like when you blow across the top of an empty bottle. Usually no vibration and sometimes it's loud and other times not. Never does it in another gear.
It typically only makes the noise when I first start out in the morning and will continue for the first 3 or 4 miles. Hardly ever does it after that. Also, it does not do it every morning and will go weeks without making the noise. It does seem to happen more often when it's damp or raining. However, I garage the car, so it's not wet when I leave.
While this has been happening for almost a year, it's so sporadic, I haven't bothered to bring it in to the dealer. However, today it's humid and raining, so it happened 6 or 7 times today.
It has to be something with the clutch engaging with the pressure plate, but why? The car has just over 48k miles and otherwise is perfect.
Any ideas out there?
