Not too long ago an insider from KIA (high in the ranks *cough*corporate*cough* ) told me to wait for next year's Koup: a 274HP 2.0L Turbo Charged Engine. A few months later, Hyundai offers the same exact engine for the Sonata. From this information I can deduce that the engine will be identical or at least similar to the one used in the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Does anyone else have any additional information?

Also:

A related article regarding the 2.0T engine:

my dealer said he heard 2012 due to the new fuel laws and etc..
I'd bet money they'll use the same motor on both kia and hyundai cars so I'd asume we could have that stock 200 hp or more motor in are koup GO KIA !!!

atleast I'm hopeful lol

no company will offer a motor swap as an upgrade.. if you're lucky they'll possibly make the turbo kit as an upgrade if it's the same motor

yeah I hear ya.. but to be honest if kia even did offer the turbo as a upgrade I'd be all kinds of happy with them:)
but might not matter cause the rumors seem to be another motor going in..
well I'll keep dreaming lol

My opinion is that they (Kia) will put a turbo on their 1.6L. Not the 2.0L and 2.4L.
I think their tarket will be around 200-220HP.

Just an opinion...........hope I'm wrong!

whys that? why would they put the rio motor in there then turbo it ?

i think it would be easier to do it to the 2.0 or 2.4

They have the 1.6 in the Asian Forte's. I think they will go 2.0L Turbo in NA at least.

As Mfury state, the 1.6L is allready in asian Forte.
In my opinion:
1-Kia will not try to "overrun" the Gen coupe!!!
2-For fuel economy.
3-Too expensive drive train for 250+ HP

Again, I wish I'm wrong but........

We'll see!!!

yes it's in asia but the 2.0 is also in asia.. and a 2.0 turbo koup will probably get as good of mpg as a 1.6 stock or the 2.0 it wont make the MPG much worse

also i'd hope to shit the 6 speed can hold 250 or kia is doing it wrong

gen coupe goes after a different target

forte koup would go after ms3s, cobalts, and border on sti's and evos

gen coups go after maros, stangs, soltices and skys

thats what i thought too, if anything it may get better gas mileage
and 1.6 might be a little underpowered for these cars

shit even it it comes with a turbo 1.6 putting out 200 hp.. it'll be nice..

it just doesnt make sense to re engineer something when they have a turbo 2.0 in the gen coup and sonata hell i might pick up a sonata if the koup doesnt get a turbo lol

I would agree.. from kia's stand point it is cost effective to just run the motor they already have.. but I know from reading online they had rumored / planed to put the theta motor in are car this year.. which was gdI and more hp.. not sure why they changed there minds?

the current 2.0 and 2.4 are theta II blocks from what i remembered

however they could easily put the sonata engine which i think might be what you're talking about
