Problems with Sunroof Switch

12837 Views 16 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Tyler Gunderson
So I've noticed lately that when I get in my car (SX Koup, auto trans) When I move the sunroof button backwards to open the sunroof the sunroof doesn't actually open... i've had to re-try this step once or maybe twice before the roof starts sliding open.
It's almost as if theres a short in the elctrical or something, has anyone else had this issue?

Nope...Dealer time!
ya i'm due for my next service soon anyways so i'll def. have them check it out... ugh i hate my dealer it's almost like pulling teeth having to go there... AND this is one of those problems that doesn't happen all the time so my luck they'll just tell me "ohhh theres nothing wrong with it"
thats why I figured i'd check with you guys and see if anyone else has had this issue.

Thanks for the reply!
I haven't seen any switch issues (that I can remember) on any of the Forte forums. There are some threads on the switch operation -- auto open, manual close.
page 4-26 of the users manual has instructions on resetting the sun roof
(have you disconnected the battery/added any fuse taps lately?)
no I haven't done anything with the battery or fuse panel at all... but I will read up on this in the manual, thanks for that!
@ KoUpKiD905 What dealer do you use?
Sunroof button

The first time you push the button back, it is not in express mode, you have to push back past the detent to get it in express mode and let go and it will open all the way. A light touch, and it will only open until you let go of the button. If this is a quick touch, it may not move at all.

Thanks for the hint however I do slide the switch back and often times have held it back waiting for the roof to begin opening in "express mode" and that process I have had to repeat sometimes twices before the roof will eve begin opening...

One in York Region, you from the area?
Ya, I live in Aurora, and have been taking the Car to Newmarket Kia, and have nothing but good things to say about them, I was just curious cause you said you said you hate your dealer, just curious why?
Yes i have this same issue sometimes, but it always works the 2nd try, never more attempts needed, it also does the same thing when i try to close it sometimes
i hate hearing about the "problems" without hearing about the "solutions"

is it user error or something wrong with the car? all those posts above left it all in limbo........
I don't know if this is gonna help you any but here goes. I noticed that on a occasions when going to put the sunroof back/full open I would accidently kinda push the button up (to just lift/tilt)first while trying to pull it back at the same time. The relay or switch is not designed to do 2 things at once, if that makes any sense to you. If you don't know what I mean then close the sunroof then hold the button forward and while doing this press up and nothing should happen but release completely then just press up without moving forward or back and the roof will go up. I don't know if that's what you are doing or not but I found it really didn't take much movement on the wrong axis of the switch for me to think the sunroof wasn't working. Now I don't have that problem anymore I just make sure I press straight up or straight back.

so to update I finally got the car to a dealer because (like mentioned in my other Thread regarding electrical issues) I noticed one of my dome lights part of the same console where my sunroof switch is was intermittenly working here and there, among other electrical issues. Well needless to say, as always, they weren't able to re-create most of the issues I have experienced (with my steering wheel volume control, bluetooth, horn etc.) BUT The tech did go to open the sunroof and FINALLY the problem presented itself...
Anyways long story short he was un sure what the route of the problem could be as he checked all the switches and wiring and everything checked in proper. So he has order a hole new Ceiling console (with the sunroof switch, dome lights and sunglass holder) to be installed and see if it was maybe just a faulty unit... i'll keep you updated!

First off WOW....I have had my SX Koup for about 3 weeks now and never knew you could push the button up for vent so I just ran out to try it.

I also tried to duplicate the issue and followed what Antny said about pushing the button up while back at the same time. The motor does activate (you can hear it and see a slight movement) but it never opens. This could be your issue.

Yes i have i have a 2010 Kia Forte Sx when i go to open my sunroof it only opens about a quarter of an inch so wat could that be? i think that it might either be the motor or the switch but which one?
