Satellite Radio Issues?

9342 Views 15 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  FlyTrap
I just wanted to know if i'm the first one to get their Koup and have the satellite radio just not work. I sat outside for a good 15-20 minutes and it said "acquiring signal" the whole time. I have contacted the dealer about this and they will obviously fix it as it's under warranty. Just want to know if anyone else has had issues with this and/or know what the real issue is.

Thanks!

I can think of 3 reasons it's not working and I just want to make it clear I'm not insulting your inteligence

1) What was the weather like? Thick clouds can make aquiring sat. signal very hard for cars.

2) Are you parked under something that can obstruct signal such as a tree or carport?

3) Has your subscription expired?

The only reason I ask these questions is the same as why tech's for, lets say washing machines ask "Is it plugged in?" first.

I have this issue when i'm driving, if I am near an overpass, gas station, under a big tree etc. thats when it searches for a signal. But if you were just parked outside in the open on a clear sunny day then I find that strange why it wouldn't pick up a signal... Also just curious do you have your stock antenna connected still? or have you replaced it with anything else?

definitely have the dealer check it out... maybe wouldn't hurt giving Sirius a call and asking them if there is a signal being sent out to your device as well....
Good luck bud!

ugh- i've seen this on that kiatech site.......
give me a min or two........

anyhow-i know i read on that site that there is/was a bug w/older sirius systems- and that once you got the 'aquiring signal' message- that it was boinked-
the fix was to keep it from happening cuz onces that happened- the head unit has to be replaced.......
and go figure-i can't find that damn link now...

You're not the first. I had to get mine replaced 2 weeks after I bought it due to mine displaying the same thing yours is: "acquiring signal".

More than likely they'll replace it.

Pretty sure that TSB just covers normal operating procedure and troubleshooting...
Mine does the same thing looses singal under bridges for a second or two. I talked to the radio rep and he thought that there was a softwear update for early production forte koups but i think that we need to contact the dealer ship about this!!
I test drove a koup a couple weeks back. they let me borrow it for a day to see if it was for me. anyways, i was listening to the satellite radio when all of a sudden the signal cut out. then it would come back on again a second later. it was clear skies, just driving down normal streets and no bridges or tunnels of the sort. it happened probably 5-6 times over the course of the test. i never brought it up to the dealer but i know that if i bought the car then and there i would have questioned something like that. even though it only happened a handful of times, it was really annoying.
ok-i found the article on kiatech- it specifically mentions the 2009 soul-
how ever- the symptems the article describes fits your error to a T.

the bulletion (bod045) is meant for the dealers to flash the units before customer gets the car- because once the error occurs- there is no chance that they can fix it other than replacing the whole head unit.
quoted
"Do not perform this service action if an audio unit is continuously displaying “Loading
SIRIUS”. Soul audio units with this condition must be replaced"
quoted from kiatech- to figure out the version of your software in the head unit
'turn Power Off,
then press presets 1 & 6
(press preset 1
slightly before preset 6)
hold both for more

than 1 second then screen will display
software version."

dont know what the 2010 koup version should be reading-
but the updated 2009 soul went from v1.0usa to v1.1 usa

Yeah. I was outside in the middle of my driveway on a Sunny Day :/ so thats why this Tuesday i'm pretty sure they're replacing it.
Oh and it couldnt have expired i got the car a week and a half ago :p

i've had that same clear sky cut out happen to me quite often here in tampa ........
if it keeps happening over the next 2 months-
(only one month of ownership) sirius is out the window.....that cut out reason and the extra chatty/stupid DJs i have to listen to during my morning/afternoon drives esp. that afternoon guy on the 80s or new wave station .....always mentioning the jobs that he has or has done...

seriously- i thought the reason of the "sat" radio was to cut out the comercials and the chit chat......ok- so no commercials- but still a bucket load of chit chat to themselves? WTF???

i am so leaning to loading up a thumb drive and rolling with that......
(so whats the largest thumb drive that has been proven to work with our lil beasties?)

I think its 5 Gigs, but i may be mistaken. Sirius isn't a big deal for me, its the only thing malfunctioning. I have a Kia Ipod Cable so i just pop in my ipod. I want sat radio cuz the its just nice to have. I want it to work so if i do decide to use it i can. Plus the GF wants me to have it. ;)

SIDE NOTE! The movie salt is pretty good :) just got back from a screening of it (i work at a movie theater ha!)
I personally am indifferent to the satelite radio. I listened to channel 1 for an hour and a half drive and it played the same 20 songs 3 times. for some reason they just kept repeating the top 20 countdown......

at that point i was glad i was driving close to a dealership and I made sure i bought an ipod cable haha
I just dropped my subscription, too many "ACQUIRING SIGNAL" messages in the middle of an open highway with no tall buildings or obstructions. I managed to get over 800 songs on my 4GB iPod using an iTunes file compression feature. Thumb drives with MP3s work well too.
Don't Think It's the Radio

Hey guys...

Here is a second thread concerning this issue. I've already had 3 radio's and the antenna changed, and it still doesn't work. This should show up at KIA as a recall, as soon as they figure out what is causing it!!! Take a look at this thread:

Let me know what you think...
