Crow's foot! Brilliant idea....why didn't I think of that? Before I traded the Rondo in for an Optima Hybrid the belt squeaked really bad. Because of how close the engine sat to the frame rail, I never ended up changing it, and I wasn't planning on paying the dealer $75 to do it. Unless the dealer did it during pre-delivery as a used car, there's a used Rondo running around with a squeaky belt.

I got nervous about my belt now that the car has 106,000 miles, so bought a new Kia belt and put it on yesterday. I had a friend help and we had no problem accessing the tensioner with a standard box end wrench. Getting the old belt off was also no problem. Getting the new one on is a pain, since there are so many pulleys to go around and not a lot of space. I found that I could access the lower pulleys by jacking up the passenger side and bending the splash shield out of the way. With my friend up top helping get the belt in position, we got it looped around everything. From start to finish, it took close to an hour.

Two things I learned. One, the belt lasts a really long time, the old belt had zero cracks and looked in great shape. Two, this is a two man job, one under the car and the other working under the hood.

Enjoyed reading this post. Has anyone replace their alternator. After running a lot of aftermarket lights, I fear I have overworked her. Just wanted to get your take on it.

Good post, very helpful. Shop wanted to charge me $200 for replacing the idler pulley because they thought they had to lift a motor mount. I replaced the pulley myself, had a heck of a time trying to get the serpentine belt back on by my self so the shop did it for me for 20 bucks. "$200 job" turned into a $50 job. 30 for pulley, 20 for labor..

I have to change the lower idler pulley on my wife's 09 rondo with the 2.4. I know I've changed the top one before, and now I know the trick to getting the belt on and off (a long 17mm wrench.) My question is did you change the lower idler pulley? It looks like there isn't enough room between the engine and frame to get the idler out. I was curious if I had to remove the motor mount and lower the engine on a jack or not.
