Stuffed turbo! Forte GT

735 Views 29 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  1.6TexGT2
So I have a 21 forte gt. Has anyone installed the stuffed turbo from sxth. I have a ton of bolt ons except stuffed. I’ve been waiting to get a tune til I installed a stuff. So my question is this a weekend install or a shop install? I asked sxth if they do installs and they don’t. They’re only 4hrs away. So Ima do a dyno tune with them. Also if I do install a stuff can I drive safely temporarily on it? Sorry if there’s a thread about this I don’t have a clue how to work this. Lol

little off there buddy.
At first I almost spit my water out...$5K!!!!! Then I read what all it includes. Not bad for someone wanting a "one and done" kit. I'm assuming they would do just the turbo and tune on its own for considerably cheaper. (disclaimer, I did not poke around their website looking for that option).
On a side note, you should be able to knock a turbo install out over a weekend on jack stands/ramps.

Agreed, we have done a couple in my garage and they both took the weekend. Mini Cooper S and Fiesta ST. The Mini sucked.

What happen to the transmission? I'm assuming its a DCT?
They just told me they’re putting a new one in. But basically all gears were slipping roughly 500rpms. I’m going to ask them when I pick it up what happened and maybe how to prevent it. Only 21k miles.

I did a "big turbo" on my '17 Focus ST. It would have went way quicker had I not broke the dang plastic coolant block, all because I was being lazy and didn't want to take the extra 15 minutes to remove a few items out of the way. Cost me about an extra 4 hours, as i had to drive to the other side of town to get the part from the only Ford dealer that had it...lol.

How'd you like the Fiesta ST? I still plan to pick one up one day to goof off with.

I stumbled on your other post about not 2 minutes after asking that question...lol. Hope it all works out. Did it show any signs of failure/strange behavior prior to the slipping issue?

Nope. Drove normal for a DCT. I assume. My first DCT.

Daughters boyfriends car. Big turbo upgrade as well. Not my cup of tea if you know what I mean. Just lacked refinement. If I recall there were a couple issues that we DID take the long way to make sure we did not break anything as well. Thermostat was one of them if I remember correctly. I actually liked the car more when he first got it. It had the full Cobb upgrades with stock turbo and it ran great. After he changed turbo, intercooler, additional injector, new tune (not Cobb) I just feel like the car lost the lower end power and refinement. He is saving now for a Golf R.

I may not go with a turbo or tube atm. If I’m already having to replace the tranny @21k miles makes me wonder if it will happen again. It’s had me thinking. But yea a weekend project does sound nice

Yeah, prior to the BT upgrade on my ST it was solid and very consistent. I was tuned through JST and it was great. For some reason after going BT the power was very inconsistent, and it wasn't heat soak. One day the car would run like a bat out of hell, hurting all kinds of V8 feelings. The next day it was like I was towing a 21' camper down the road. The 3rd and 4th gear pulls were so much fun.
