Hey, I am a 16 year old teenager from Florida who is trying to decide what car to get...

I need something that will be used to commute around an urban area, I would love something fun to drive with great performance, and I have pretty much narrowed down my choices to...

-Kia Forte Koup SX
-Scion TC
-Volkswagen Golf 2d

I would just like your 2 cents on what car is the best.. Also, I will be taking your opinion seriously, so please don't just yell out "kia duhh" or something, you lose your credibility. I'd like some evidence as to what car is better (basically, backing up your opinion)

Appreciate the help ^_^

As someone who drove around in tc and who owns a koup sx....the sx has way more power, looks alot sharper and gets more looks. Plus it handles alot better. True the tc has alot more to offer in the aftermarket department, but Kia is catching up with exhaust, turbo, body kits. As far as the golf.....no clue! So in conclusion I think you should get "Kia duhh!"

I suggest take them all out for a test drive, and decide yourself.

Scion tc - is basically played out now because everyone has one. Especially in Florida. They are not as quick as the the Kia or the GTI stock. I personally think they don't even look that good plus being in Florida everyone has one that just means your at a higher risk of getting your own broken into because you might have something installed that someone else wants. The inside of it doesn't look that good and doesn't have much room either. I don't know if you're tall but if you are good luck.

GTI - They're not too bad although I have heard about VW having major electrical issues. Besides looking like a girls car its nice that some of them are boosted but beyond that I wouldn't get one. Plus as much as I like BOV the VW comes with diverter valves which make the BOV sound retarded. But if you were to go with a GTI the one I would recommend would be the R32 as they are AWD.

Forte Koup - They also aren't too bad. I believe that Hyundai is definitely stepping up their game to compete on a more aggressive level as far as the competition goes. Look at their lineup, they obviously are getting irritated at the reputation they have had for the longest while. The Forte Koup is brand new yes, but its a chance for you to get a car that isn't popular and surprise people. The Forte isn't known like that yet but aftermarket support is on its way. Not to mention if you not into the whole modifying scene the warranty on it is incomparable to Toyota or VW. Plus the price for it is probably the best bang for the buck and the safety rating are crazy and Im not sure of specifics but I'm sure it is way better then the Scion and VW.

And I do not have a Forte Koup FYI.

Wow, thanks for the detailed response, truly appreciate it.

Btw, to any other posters; I was referring to the regular Golf, not the GTI. Still, thanks a ton.

Never have been to keen on that TC, they are every where and shout performance but are kind of lacking. Though they have a ton of after market products.

The golf is a really nice car, it will probably give you the best economy and the most versatile due to the fact its a hatch. It is also probably going to have the best build quality of the group as well.

The forte will probably be the least expensive and have the best performance. It will probably have the worst resale, but if you plan on keeping it until it dies that's not much to worry about.

Id go with either the forte or the golf. If you want performance go with the koup, and if you want a versatile car go with the golf.

Plus the new Scions are a different body style and i think they are ugly! When i was looking for a car my insurance person said the Scion is 2nd on most often broken into cars behind honda civic so that will also raise your insurance rates.

GTI - They're not too bad although I have heard about VW having major electrical issues. Besides looking like a girls car its nice that some of them are boosted but beyond that I wouldn't get one. If your getting turbo and your into modding the golf wouldnt be a bad choice VWs are known to last along time but when they do break its very hard to fix and not every shop will fix a VW (same as audi)

The Koup is deff a car that turns heads and with simple mods like grill pin striping, hids, rims, spoiler, debadge.... many people wont even know your driving a kia... not to mention the aftermarket is on the rise and you never know what will happen in 2012 Kia could release some factory performance parts.
besides the fact that your on a Koup Forum replies are bound to be biased... in the end its what you can afford

Koup SXs handle far better than the TC and stock Golf, as the TC has been derided for handling that doesn't support it's sporty looks. The stock Golf is a bit squishy, but does have a smoother ride than either coupe. The Forte SX handles much better, but I hope you can live with the harsh ride tradeoff. I don't mind it one bit, it's not as bad as some reviewers have stated, but it definitely is harsher than many cars.
As for acceleration, the new TC and Koup SX are pretty even, both better than the Golf by a few ticks. All have quality interiors, but best bang for buck would be with the TC or Koup SX. The SX does have a wonderful warranty though, which the others can't touch. As for looks...c'mon, the Kia steals the show! The TC and Golf are on every corner. While the TC first gen is a great looking car, the new TC is kinda odd, a bit awkward. I put my money with the Koup SX after beginning with a 7 car list, the top three being the Koup, the new Mazdaspeed 3, and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8.

I too originally considered a non GTI VW Golf. At the end of the day I felt it was still too expensive for what you got, and VW's reliability record is still below that of both Kia and Hyundai. They also have expensive maintenance costs after the warranty expires.

I never liked the idea of Scion as a "brand" (created to market small JDM Toyotas to american youth) so TC was never on my list. Reviews for the new version haven't been great.

The Genesis Coupe was the only true serious contender for my money; but the Koup SX stole my heart at test drive and felt better on the wallet.

I'm not like some members of this forum who are somewhat embarrassed to drive a Kia: I wear my badge proud because I'm an educated consumer not brand whore. Kia pretty much has the best looking lineup of any mainstream automaker with plenty more surprises in store. Hit up the official Kia blog at http://www.Kia-Buzz.com.

I love having a "rare" car on the road that no one else has; I love my Koup...it gets TONS of looks and compliments.

I would suggest test driving all the cars you're interested in and also you might want to wait to see how the Hyundai Veloster rides.

I'll put it in terms you can better relate too...

Head to head racing, my koup has beaten 3 scions and every freakin civic out there including an SI. Never raced a vw but I'm sure it could take it. Not saying you should do street racing but we all know the deal.

Really appreciate all of the opinions guys, it's been a big help. I've pretty much ruled out the Scion and now it's between the Golf and the Koup, and I'm leaning towards the Koup... It all depends on how the test drives go though.. Once again, ty.

I test drove all the ones your looking at and I concur with the above opinion. Comes down to money VS Looks VS appearance. Best value for $ in looks and performance the Kia takes it. But the VW is better build no doubt.
