FYI - per KGIS

This bulletin provides information about “TECHRON® Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner”
that is now Kia approved and recommended (refer the vehicle owner to the maintenance section of
owner’s manual) for complete fuel system cleaning during routine service intervals and preventative
maintenance. A 12-ounce bottle will safely treat up to 12 gallons of gasoline, and can be used in all gasoline
engine types, including MPI or GDI systems. “TECHRON® Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner”
should be used at every standard oil change interval (7500) miles, if TOP TIER* Detergent Gasoline
is not available. “TECHRON® Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner” effectively cleans fuel injectors,
intake valves, combustion chambers, and protects critical fuel system components from corrosion and
sulfur content in fuel. This product will not harm emission control systems and will not leave behind
harmful combustion chamber deposits.

A single tank (up to 12 gallons) that is treated with a 12 ounce bottle is sufficient for
cleaning the fuel system in normal cases. However, a second treatment on the next
consecutive fill up may give additional benefits for engines with a heavier accumulation
of deposits.

“TECHRON® Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner” can be used to help maintain
optimum fuel system performance, and is recommended for use during every oil change
as part of a preventative maintenance practice if TOP TIER* Detergent gasoline is not
available.

Don't get me started on TTG. It's nothing more then a marketing scheme. In short, they only test gas from companies that want to participate. As such, there is no way to know if non-TTG is better or worse. It very well can meet TTG guidelines or even be better. Gas is gas... it comes from the same location. The only difference is the additives.

Personally, I buy gas where ever and then use Techron as directed (every 3000 miles). That way I don't need to worry about what additives are in the gas.

why is Citgo not on the list? They are all over the place, i figured they would be on the list.

I guess this is now a TTG thread lol. There's Shell stations all over my area, no shortage of certified clean gas in DFW.

I wonder if it's even worth the bother to go with fuel system cleaners like this. Nobody's gonna argue with a delicious shot every now and then right?

not all gas is the same

top tier gas is recommended because it contains detergent not
in your cheepo haji-hut gas
all the auto manufacturers that i know of recommend it
even gm recommend techron if tt gas isn't used
you all would be amazed at how easy injectors get dirty

If you've been using any of the local Top Tier gasoline retailers like Shell, Esso, or Petro Canada then you should be fine as per Kia. If you really want to find Techron, then I've heard that it is available at some GM dealers. If you use any of the concentrated fuel cleaners, I suggest you do this for the gas tank or couple of fill ups immediately preceding an oil change.

lleader, save youre money & put it to something else:) Most over the counter cleaners have been tested & proven to not work. The only way to clean a dirty injector is ultra sonic bath, you remove youre injectors & pay someone. Or, build youre own injector cleaner & do it youreself.

#18 ·
That's not completely accurate. Many over the counter cleaners DO WORK. Especially if you are using gas that has no/little additives.

@lleader - Just buy Chevron gas once in a while

Many of these products have been tested By flow benching injectors before & after using said product & There was no change on the flow bench. Also, this is not the first OEM to say this. I can remember back in early 90's a few of the European OE's tried this ... can't rememeber how long it was in place. Back to KIA, they tried this with their own labled injector cleaner for every service. None of these OEM's ever provided the "documentation or paperwork" for their tests. Years ago, I called Chevron enquiring about their products & they could not provide the tests or studies to back up their claims.:)

These are all opinions so take them as they are.

I have seen more than one car with fuel delivery issues cleared up with an "Italian Tune Up". Deposits on injectors can lead to leaky injectors or injectors with longer duration in order to deliver the correct amount of fuel.

On new/newer cars you will be hard pressed to show any improvement since deposits can take years to build up.....but you can't deny that it may be helpful.

"An ounce of prevention is worth...."

So to try to say "They Don't work" or "Are not worth it" is misleading. Unless of course you can provide your own test results showing that they did not help.

For what it's worth, twenty-five years ago my mechanic told me to use Techron. He owned a Getty gas station, yet he's telling me to use the Techron, which is a Chevron product. This guy knew his way around cars and was always honest with me. So I listened to him.

My son has a 1998 S-10 Chevy PU. I put some gas in it at the no name gas staion because it was $0.10 per gallon cheaper. One quarter of a tank of it burned and the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I read his manual about this light. It said that just changing brands of gas could cause it.
I asked my son what he usually runs in it and he said "Nothing but Chevron or Shell".
When that tank got close to empty I filled it up with Chevron.
After about three fourths of the gasoline was burned the light went off.
I am running Chevron or Shell in my Kia as a result.

I wasn't looking to 'clean' dirty injectors - at least, with only 8300 km on the car I hope not, but perhaps as a preventative measure.

I'm not sure there are ANY Chevron gas stations in Ontario. I use Shell gas exclusively.

I used several different brands of Fuel Injector Cleaner in my now demolished 2006 Ford Taurus. I put a bottle of it in about every 3 to 4 months and I could feel the difference in the engine idle within a matter of minutes after putting it in.
Running the cleaner gas with a cleaning additive in it already almost stops the need to use this but very seldom.

Just so some people understand... all of the gasoline in one area comes from the same location. That is, its the _same_ gasoline. The _only_ difference are the additives (stabilizers/cleaners) that get added to the gasoline when it leaves to be delivered.

Most areas of the US require ethanol. Ethanol is a good cleaner on it's own(in limited amounts).

I felt the TSB was more of a snake oil sale pitch, so I used Techron on a 180K mile Hyundai with MPI engine for two fillups. Subjectively, I do seem to feel difference in engine sound and a better pick up with acceleration.

For peace of mind, I am going to use Techron in sync with each engine oil change. BTW, you can pick it up from s Walmart (for about $7) or from any other auto parts store (about $8). I bought 6 12oz when Adv. Auto Parts were having 40% off $50 promotion with result that I paid little over $5 each.

Nevertheless, if I had never read about the TSB, I would never have considered using the fuel additives. My other cars with injectors survived fine and I've never used these fuel additives before without any issues...

So... to use or not to use, it's your own personal call.

Advanced Auto Parts (US only) is selling 12oz for $4.99. If you buy online and pickup at the store (until July 25), and if you have $50 worth of products in cart, use code A123 to get $20 off $50 purchase => Thus, you pay about $30 for $50 worth of products.

I bought 9 each and a $5.23 cleaner to barely get over the $50. Thus, I am paying about $3 each.

no joke, i used my first bottle of Techron yesterday. today was my first day driving since. I drive mostly highway on the way to work, been avg about 32mpg. This morning, i was at 36.9mpg when i got to work. Wondering how long this will last before dropping again. :D
