Themed cars...I've got an idea

So... here's what I was thinking. It will be less to wrap my hood in matte black than to put a nice size Carolina Panthers logo on the hood. Actually it would probably be cheaper not to do a theme like that in the long run. Questions, comments, concerns, advice, gripes, etc are welcome for this. And yes I would still take this car to a car show like this.

The exterior
-My car is blue (SCORE!).
-I am going to do a blue/black theme regardless of what I choose to do.
-But I want to spice up my car a little bit more.
-And since the Carolina Panthers are my favorite team and the 2 main colors are black and blue I thought I'd add a splash of white in there to make the theme.
-I was thinking about a decent size panther head on the hood and Carolina Panthers written down the side from the bottom front fenders to the top back ones in the style that they use.
-Possibly painting the wheels wheels I have now black/blue/white in some nice and non-tacky way. Unless I can trade them for a set of 2010 SX rims. :D

The interior
-I'm going to wrap the interior dash, console, portion of the doors and back arm rests in blue no matter what but if this theme happens I'd have to throw in some white lines as a border or do some pieces of the interior white.
-The big problem with the interior would be custom fitted seat covers that had a panther head embedded in the front seats and the Carolina Panthers written out on the back seat in one piece.
-The pillars and roof would be redone as well so the tan isn't there anymore.
-Seat belt shoulder covers will be added along with a steering wheel cover.
-Floor mats were another thing, but I'd rather just get plain black floor mats that are fitted for the Koup so I can have the head logo sewn into them. I hate universal floor mats. So ugly.

That's all I can really see doing to it since it's just something I've come up with in the last few days. It's a pretty decent idea that is there since they are my favorite team.

I'm waiting for a reply from the legal department about any issues I may or may not have by doing this since I'm not being sponsored and just want to do this out of fandom. I gave them a more brief list of all the things that would have any of the logos I've chosen that the NFL or Panthers do not sell or make.

So...whatdaya think?????

My opinion would be don't put the logo on the hood and Carolina Panther your entire car out. If you want to go for the color scheme, fine but the logo and name on the fenders will look super tacky. Not to mention if any bitter fans of opposing teams see your car it's a massive potential target for vandalism. If anything, go for the color scheme and get yourself a window decal or sticker for the Panthers. Seeing how you're at an air base in South Korea I'm assuming you're in the military. If you go through with the Panthers scheme, logos name and all get ready to get tons of comments thrown at you where-ever you go on an active duty installation. Especially if your post changes to a location where the Panthers aren't liked at all.

unless they are paying you to advertise for them.. I wouldn't

thats exactly my point. thanks for pointing out the obvious.
I wanted to hear his opinion, not yours

to each their own indeed.. much like the guy who has a "Si" spoiler on a KIA looks like garbage.. IMO

#17 ·
LOL again.. to each their own haha
ok now that this thread has been jacked haha

I'd avoid doing a team themed car :p IMO.. it would be tacky..
unless..
A) you own the team
B) play on the team

people do this stuff with yankees colors/pinstriping up here. they all turn out HORRIBLE and you cant hide tacky it comes with making a theme based anything.

Well. I'll say that all the comments that were directed to my post were pretty much what I thinking the community would say. It's an up in the air kind of thing and wouldn't be done until I get to Charleston at the earliest if the plan goes through.

I personally don't think it would be too tacky looking to get all of that done. As for being a target for people who don't like the team... yeah. I know a car like that would stand out like no other and there's a higher chance of something happening to it. Even if I'm not getting sponsored or endorsed by the NFL or team, I'd still do it out of fandom; but that's being a fan right? Haha.

Also with this project. It would cost me a hell of a lot more to get custom logos made/sewn into anything I wanted. That's the main thing I was looking at. I'm going to wrap a bunch of parts on the interior blue anyway, but having a theme (besides colors) would be kind of cool in my opinion.

I've seen some bad ass looking cars that are themed with teams, games, companies, etc that look pretty damn good. But I also know they put more money into their car than I could. It has to be done right though. Ya know???

I appreciate the comments, even though none of them were positive towards the idea. Lol. :D As another question if I don't decide to do the theme like I posted, what do you guys think about with just a blue/black/white theme? No team logos, just the colors.

When it all boils down to it man, it doesn't matter what ANY of us think OR say. It's your car. If you think it will be kick ass, then go for it. I'd just hate to see some drunk punks who hate that team mess up your car after their team just got beat, you know?

Oh and a blue, black and white theme? Sounds like you enjoy that color scheme, I say go for it dude. It will be original and unique and YOURS.

Just don't go paint your air vents white lol! :p

I have to say, after living in the land of cheese for a couple of decades now, I have seen my share PACKERS-MOBILES on the road. These people LOVE their Packers! If you can put a team logo on it, these people will buy it. And since the Packers are the only community-owned franchise in American professional sports major leagues, these people technically own the team!

Not even SketchedOut's argument will stop them!

So, even though my opinion shouldn't hold any more weight than anyone else here, I think my experience having to share the roads with countless cheese-heads should count for something. There is nothing wrong with a good color scheme, but you probably want to avoid over-killing the logo or the name of the team on the car. That being said, it's your car, you do whatever you think looks cool to you. Hell, I'm still looking for someone to make me some 80's-styled custom, rear window louvers. ;)

^^ Hey, that PhotoShop someone did a while back with the louvres didn't actually look that bad. I would never do it to my own car, but it didn't look too bad.
Jalum, if what you have pictured in your head looks good, then why not. ;) Personally I actually agree with most of the others that have posted here, especially Zilthai, as some logos or names sewn/stuck around wouldn't be too bad, but don't over do it. The color scheme alone should look really good with a sparse logo/name here and there. You're wanting to almost put a logo/name on everything that you can. ;) Whatever you do, keep us posted man. I'd like to see how it turns out.

After talking about the idea with a few of my friends and reading more posts on here. I think it might be overboard to throw the head on the hood and some of the logos around the interior. Maybe just get the logos on the side of the car, and custom seat covers with the logos on them as well. Then just color scheme the car blue/black/white. That may be a bit better. Haha!

It'll be a while before I can do this but I'll go talk to a guy when I'm on mid-tour in May and see what ideas he can come up with along with mine for the interior and draw up some concepts. It'll probably be this time next year when it's all done if I don't install my system first. I'm just trying to get most of the planning done so by September I'll have a pretty stable idea of what's going to happen.

I'll keep everybody updated on how the planning process is going. Any and all ideas, or criticism is welcome. It is MY car, but somebody might have a better idea about something that I didn't come up with. :D So keep the posts coming.

I could design some emblems for ya will have drawings around 2 EST. I just think going overboard would be a big mistake. I'd go emblems, some custom lighting In blue and seat covers. Its tough when the stock fortes are red lighting and biege/grey interior. I went with the vikings kinda theme with purple lights and silver body. I made emblems but the Viking head got lost easy.

I will probably get flamed, but here is my idea....
If you want to go with the panthers idea, I would do it in a more subtle way. I definitely like the idea of incorporating the blue, black and white in the car, just go well together. I would consider doing a "ghost" paintjob of a panther down the sides of the car and have the panthers in their style font somewhere discreetly on the car. I do think that the helmet on the hood would be a bit much. If you have a fathead of the helmet or whatever they are called, try that out (They remove easily from the walls and stuff right? Just slap it on the hood and get a feel for what it looks like before you completely give up on the idea.

If you want to be a bit more unique and original.. Don't put the decals like NASCAR would have. Avoid the center o the door, the good and roof. Maybe a larger quarter panel decal? If it wraps onto the trunk or roof a bit that's fine. But off center it. As an art student, twinning kills anything. Make it so both sides don't look te exact same. Thats ghost idea for the logo would be sick, get t painted on in a lighter blue then your car has already, could be bad ass. Will make it look less tacky.. Again, IMO

this would make a sweet emblem to replace the KIA one in the grill and on the trunk if your going themed
