Will 225/50 R17 fit on my 2012 Kia Forte Koup SX factory rim?

Will it fit, yes but it's more that 5% taller than the factory tire. That's too much. You really shouldn't go above a 45 aspect ratio with a 225 tire. (225/45-17)

Is that because it will run under the fenders/wheel well? I'd like to have a little more tire between the rim & the road, need more cushion to help with a more smoother, softer & quieter ride. This care is really bad with road noise. Did Dynamat behind door panels, rear panels when replacing speakers, under back seat, & trunk area but you can still hear it & can tell it's from the factory Goodyear tires. Any ideas to get a quieter & smoother ride?

Thanks a million.

If you want more sidewall then you should drop down to 16" wheels. That will give you more sidewall cushion without increasing the overall tire diameter. So I would suggest a set of the factory 205/55-16 tires used on the EX model (obviously you would need new wheels). That gives you the exact same sidewall as the 225/50-17 tire but the correct 25"diameter tire.

That factory EX tire is a little narrower than the tire on your SX so if you want a tire as wide at the factory 17" you could go with a 215/55-16. That has an even taller sidewall for more cushion but only about 2% taller in overall diameter.

Now, I know you're thinking that's a much greater cost but I bet you could find a set of used 16" Forte wheels AND tire on eBay for less than a set of new 17" tires.

Here's 3 for $105 each:

And there are more for that price. So a complete set would be less than $500

IMO i don't think a quiet ride and the Forte SX are synonymous... actually i can't speculate for the Koup... but my F5 SX is not quiet at all and even with factory wheels it had some RN... i dropped down to 235/35/ and it really did not make a diff, just made the ride a little firmer though, although i like road feel anyway. but your tire specs are def off 225/50 is not the way to go.

Yeah, tire size isn't the issue with noise. It's the tread. For example, My wife's Tucson has 17" factory wheels and all-season tires. I also have a set of 16" wheels with winter tires for the winter season. The overall diameter is the same but because of the smaller wheel, there is a thicker sidewall. However, the winter tire is MUCH louder than the all-season tires because of the different tread. While the winter tire is "softer" and absorbs bumps better, the road noise is louder.

So, if noise is the main problem, get different tires in the factory size, you will be much happier.

If you want a thicker sidewall to absorb bumps and feel softer then get smaller diameter wheels and tires with the same overall outer diameter.

The funny thing about all this is, the SX is "sportier" car compared to the EX and LX versions and they come from the factory with larger wheels and with tires that have a shorter (and stiffer) sidewall.

This is a prefect example of why people should test all the trim levels to see which one fits them better. I think the original poster would have liked the ride of the EX version better. It has smaller wheels and softer tires and ride.

Personally, the stiffer ride is one of many reasons I wanted the SX. In fact, I've added even larger 18" wheels with even shorter sidewalls. Just my personal taste.

I should have clarified. I was referring to the tire to tire aspect ratio (section width as they call it in your chart) only. 113/97 rounded. 225/50 is 16 mm taller, or roughly 16% taller. But yes, when you toss in the wheel height, overall diameter is 5% taller. Since my calculation was on a smaller scale, the percentage difference was greater. Hope that's a little clearer.
