So what is the top speed anyone has gotten out of there Kia Forte GT? I got 132mph, but I feel like there is more in the tank. May try again some time. 🤣

Keep in mind that Jackson Browne also did that tune since he co- wrote it with Glen Frye. And being an old fart, I got most of my speed fixes in my late 20's and early 30's when I drove an 84 Laser XE Turbo and a Honda V-45 Magna. I used to drive 120 plus every chance I got. I haven't pushed my Forte over 110 since I bought it and that was plenty for me.

This isn't important at all. 132 mph is well short of the car's maximum velocity.

I am not going to even tell you how to get to 155 mph it's superficial.

Hypothetically, I took a road trip recently and got a few chances to stretch it's legs. (Everyone who hasn't driven through South Dakota can F off with their speed rants) As mentioned, the most impressive thing about the GT is the way it gets from 60-130mph. With the manual trans, the car is running 5,500 RPM in 6th at 130 and really doesn't want to go much past that. The turbo is made to give the most between 2,000 and 5,000rpm. I'd guess the manual tops out at 140 on a flat, 145-150 with a bit of a down hill and a tail wind.

I'm frankly stoked. This is my idea of the perfect daily and road trip machine. PLENTY of passing power for the highway, good handling with the Michelin Pilot Sports for the twisty roads especially with the independent rear suspension, but the car sips fuel when you're not on the floor, doesn't complain when you feed it 87, and still has plenty of space. Good car. Great job Kia, I suspect Albert Bierman had a role in the creation of this car.

It doesn't like 91. I don't know where you missed it but the car makes 10 whp more across the entire power band with E20, IE 20% E85 mixed with 91/92/93 stock tune.

190 whp on 91 and 201 on E20....

What you are running into literally is more air aka drag, the car makes peak power around 6000 rpm. It takes more than the car makes stock to overcome 140 mph and continue to accelerate briskly to it's maximum speed.

I know it’s not a GT, but my FE manual with the 2.0 is electronically limited to 123 (or so I’m told). I’ve had it up to 120 and it did not feel like it had much more in it. Acceleration past 115 is comically slow, and it got a tad squirrelly at those speeds on the tall-sidewall all seasons that come on the base model

It seems like with the GT even at 132mph, it felt solid as if I was going 55mph. I have the Michelin Sport S tires on with a speed rating of Y, which a max speed of 186. This thing is totally different from anything else so have ever had. Never felt that in any other car. Even though this is a Budget Performance Car, it is my first performance car. I love it! Thanks for the reply! šŸ‘

Budget GT? Way down on power and as I've said before likely better over uneven pavement than the torsion bar suspension on the regular Forte (and previous generation cars).

I'd be careful about dumping money in your commuter car, if that's what is. You are better off keeping the Forte stock and trade-in the Volvo for something sportier.

Yeah I like the lack of power. Makes it more rewarding to wring out. And yeah, I know it’s technically not as good of a rear end design. It’s not going be exactly like a GT, but I do like a responsive car that I can feel everything in, even if it is my daily driver. I’m not gonna go crazy with it, but the chassis braces, wheels, tires, rear sway, and lowering springs should help dramatically

I got to mine to 130mph. I've driven faster in a different car—140 mph straight at a local track and once up to 167 mph on the highway. The GT feels like it can go a little faster, but it will take a lot of time. Without any scientific test, I believe it can go up to 140 mph in a very long straight.

Some two decades ago, the Subaru STI was the cult around here. They were fast but died about the same speed as the GT—about 140 mph. Once at 140, I continued to 167, and the Subaru was way, way, way back.😁

By the way, does anyone know of better (for me, aggressive first bite) pads for the GT?

I drove mine to 130 mph, and it asked for a little more, but I presume it will not be much. Now I have a question for you: Did you feel something funny when hitting the brakes at that speed? I mean, something like vibration? I have had such concern since I got it. Even at a slower speed, I could feel the vibration when hitting the brakes harder than usual. I believe it is the rotors. I have the intention to claim the dealer, but then I hit several potholes and bent one of the wheels, and I'm almost sure they will blame the bent. Anyhow I will try the next time I go by the dealer again.

As others in the forum say, they will not risk going that fast is good advice.

I'm used to driving faster than average, and once in a slow traffic area to speed a little more than the limit. The fastest I had ever gone was against a Subaru WRX STI on a downhill curvey highway road. The guy in the STI had the advantage of 4-wheel drive (I didn't take the risk). After a while, I passed him and got to "normal" speed when I glimpsed my mirror and found him in pursuit. I shifted down to 4th, then 5th, and at 6th; I was doing 167mph (note: the electronic 155-speed limit was removed with a retune), and the Subaru was way, way, way back. I believe the GT has similar characteristics. They got the maximum speed fast enough. Still, then after hitting the max rpm, it could go a little bit faster but will take forever (for those of you who better know the mechanics and technical jargon can explain this lot better than me). The BMW V8 with no turbo had a lot more at higher speed. That was the fastest car I ever had and the funniest to drive. Now I have my first turbo car, the second front-wheel drive, and the first automatic (well, sort of ;)).

so i have ventured over 100 finally and quite often ;), getting more comfortable with this car, had it up to 120 but im always on the highway on a long stretch of open road where i can let the car slow down on its own before i have to use the brakes, but i have not felt anything like you are describing, even at normal speeds. hope it isnt anything too terrible

#27 Ā·
Even my FE with smaller brakes doesn't do anything weird, even at well over 100.

It takes so long to get a forte GT over 100mph its should not be called acceleration it’s just speeding. It’s a very fun car and has a lot of potential but why even focus on something like this?

#29 Ā·
I wouldn't say that. I've had my base 2.0 over 100 many times, and the GT is far faster

#30 Ā· (Edited)
I wouldn't call this car fast by any means, but I've had it over 140 and it's mildly confident at that speed. Plus it doesn't pull very good from 120-140. It's actually kind of a pig after 100. I was expecting a lot more considering as a young kid with a stock FD I hit 158, it felt solid, and didn't take nearly as long to go 100-158 then this Forte takes for 100-140. Now before everyone states this isn't comparable, remember a stock FD puts down about 220whp and 205 TQ, mine weighed about 2800 back then, and she's an R1 so had a drag coefficient of .34. My forte makes more power and torque, weighs about 2900 (that's right GT2 folks) and I saw somewhere on here that they have a drag coefficient of .29 (same as the non-R1 FD). This car shines between 10-80mph, the DCT doesn't launch and my tires are howling through first and half of second.

I have a racechip gts. Catless down pipe. Full 3 inch exhaust. High flow race cat. Cold air intake. Magnaflow. And yes I do have 186 mph rated Michelin pilot sport 4s. 245/35/18. My top speed that I got it to was 172 mph. Once you get to 150-160. It slows down a lot. But not because of the gearing. But because of lack of power. I’m pushing 240 to the wheels right now. I knew a guy that had a manual with a turbo swap and he did 185.
