Transmission Grinding: Am I doing something wrong?

5403 Views 46 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  WandersX
I'm currently running a Koup SX 6 speed and here is my problem. Whenever I do a 3 - 6 shift my transmission grinds, in fact, if I do a 4 - 6 shift, my transmission grinds. So I'm wondering, am I not supposed to be shifting from third to sixth (say accelerating onto the highway then shifting into 6th to cruise)? I was always under the impression that this was okay. Does anybody else's transmission grind when doing this or should I get it checked by the dealer?

Think that will help?
I don't think you have any other choice. I would. Was this all done through the Service Manager or just one of the advisors? Usually the Service manager is the one who will handle any and all warranty work. If he is the one telling you that you have to pay then go directly to KIA customer service at the numbers provided. I doubt the General Manager will be willing to help if the service manager is not helping you out.

On a side note. I picked up my SX 6 speed manual a week ago and I have no grinding from any gear at all.
Alright I'll definately give the Kia Service number a call. I was only talking with the service manager so i'm sure I can try my luck with service. At first I never had the tranny problem either. Only after going in for maintenance did I notice the problem =\
Alright soooo after contacting The Kia Service number that our faithful members provided me, thank you very much, I had a long conversation with them. However, it was the same thing I was told from the dealership about the clutch being a maintenance item and it is not covered under warranty after the first 12k. Before I got off the phone I asked "is there any other option for me? and if I can prove the tranny was burning the clutch could it potentially be covered?" He said yes to my second question and he also mentioned further action would be under my own discretion.

Before hanging up I mentioned that i would contact the Attorney General, I really was not going too, and he started being even nicer to me. He gave me a case code all of a sudden and asked if he wants anything to give him a call immediately. At this point I was ready to just pay for it because I was sick of driving the crappy Spectra 4 door loaner they gave me.
The next day I received a phone call from the Service Manager I had spoken with previously and he called and told me this, "My district Manager called me today asking why there was a case open under service claims and I told him your story... he would like to offer a ONE TIME ONLY free of charge clutch and tranny fix for you"
... Long story short I got it all fixed and taken care of free of charge.

I am now in my Koup and loving every minute of it. The tranny seems to even work now... How about that huh?

Dude, that is SWEET! So glad that you made the call. Funny how one of their slogans is the power to surprise... I suppose it's true, I'm surprised! Anyway, now you can spend that $1500 on something more useful like new mods!
Nice Glad too hear they fixed it all up for the sweet cost of zero dollars and zero cents
Man oh man nice :)
Yea I really lucked out. Gonna spend that moolah on some much needed snow tires and put some more towards winter mats, and my next maintenance. Supposedly 50k is 500$ eeeek!
