Just installed my short shifter this weekend. It definitely tightens everything up. The shifts now are much more solid and confident. Of course, it's still a pain to shift into 2nd when its cold but I have some new tranny fluid on order to fix that!
I installed TWM's bushings as well and they make a huge difference from the stock rubber ones. Even if you don't think you want a short shifter, I would recommend the bushings. You can get them here:
Kia Forte and Forte Koup Short Shifters, Shift Knobs and Shift Boots - TWM Performance
I've attached a picture of the two shifters sitting on my picnic table for comparison and two of it installed.
I don't know if this applies to all 2011s or just the Forte5s but when you are removing the center console, you don't need to disconnect the 12v outlets and seat heater buttons separately. There is a single connector for all four that is right beside the connector for the Ipod. I forgot to take a picture of it while I was in there.
