So as many of you know, I've installed LED strips as my daytime running lights. They are wired into the parking lights.

Today I noticed that on one of my strips, 3 LEDs are blinking while the other 9 are on. It makes sense that 3 are blinking because they're wired in sets of 3s. What has me stumped is that this happens ONLY when the engine's running. If I turn on my lights with the engine off, it's all fine.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what could cause this?

I don't know why this is happening unless the LEDs are somehow reacting to some kind of interference from the charging system. I've heard of something like this when using HIDs.

Try this test, connect them directly to the battery while the engine is running, if the blinking stops, the issue is probably like I said. The only suggestion I have is then to use the same answer for the HIDs. You need to install a relay (like a foglight relay) that is triggered by your running lights and then runs the LEDs off the battery when the car is running.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps. Though I think I would get this problem in more than just one series of LEDs on only one of the strips. I got couple more strips coming my way for my dad. I'll hook up one of the new ones to test it out.
