I just picked up my new SX yesteday.

I hear a weird noise or rattle in the back (seems like driver's side) whenever I go over a bump. I poked around, but can't find anything loose. Doesn't seem major, but is rather annoying. Anyone have this?

2011 SX Black/Black.

Remove your spare tire (and check it's air pressure while your at it) and look in the well for anything. When I removed the spare from my daughters Forte sedan to check it I found a long nail and a rock in there. Those objects would certainly rattle when hitting a bump.

It almost sounds like you have the same problem I did.. Mine got fixed by the dealer. There was a foam pad or something they added to dampen the noise. It was just noise, nothing broken.

thanks - will try

Thanks folks. Nothing in trunk and removed everything and still get it. I will try Mathsmart's suggestion tonight. If that doesn't resolve, it's off to the dealer.

P.S. it almost sounds like the rear window is loose or something. Really weird.

It didn't do the trick. It's almost like those bars that you need to pull to put down the seats from the trunk are banging together or something.

I have an appt. this Saturday at the dealer. I'll report back when I get the solution.

Hmmm...check your trunk lid overcenter springs...right in the center is a holder for them -- see if one or both of them popped out. Look in the trunk where the third brake light is -- that's where you'll see the rod holder.

Solved!!!!

Looks like ForteSX2.4 wins the prize. I was looking in the wrong spot.

There's two black rods that sit inside two light brown plastic holders. One of the holders is defective and the rod doesn't sit tight. (really a poor design). It kept bouncing around and that was the noise.

ForteSX2.4 was referring to this, but I was looking in the back of the trunk. My bad since he was right on.

I plugged a piece of foam to clear up the free play and haven't heard the noise since.

it saved me sitting at the dealer for 1-2 hrs tomorrow. thanks to all for suggestions.

My clunk is my head hitting the roof when I hit bumps. Darn SX Suspension. I still need to soften it a bit.
Glad you found the problem. I learn more about my vehicle everyday!
