yeah im 16, my dad has a sorento, i looked at the koup and was like "we have the technology, We can make it faster." so now that were going to get one, for me that is, i must make it perfect, i would go CAI then kewl stuffz that wouldnt void the warrenty.
I've read various 0-60 times for the SX koup. Car and driver states the Sx koup manual does it in 6.9 seconds, and so does motortrend. However to get it to actually do 0-60 in 6.9 seconds you have to be one heck of a driver. then I've seen various other testers get 7.1-7.2. The auto is a bit slower than the manual.
I would say 7.1 seconds is a good estimate. The auto is probably going to be more liekly around 7.4. Kia doesn't really have the technology for the best auto transmissions.
well since my parents want a new car with a warrenty i know im getting a Koup or something in that price range, i drive my dads 2009 audi a4 2.0t quattro now, so im not a shitty driver or anything, and would a CAI and lightweight pulley blow up a koups engine?
oh okay, i was planning on doing the CAI, lightweight pulley and the RRM piggyback ECU upgrade, idk how much ore performance i can get without voiding the warranty, i just want to beat my friend's cars

That being said... don't get your heart set on an SX. Given the price, and your age, insurance costs will be a bit higher. Maybe not much higher than an EX, but trust me. At 16, you're gonna be expensive to insure. That being said... may i recommend, and god strike me dead for saying this... a used Honda as your first ride? Hear me out. If it's your first car, shit WILL happen to it. This is unavoidable. Drop $2k on a used civic or prelude or something til you know what kind of driver you're gonna be, til you're more comfortable behind the wheel. There is an ungodly amount of mods for such cars, and look at it this way: if you kill it, you're gonna be hurting a lot less financially than if you totalled a Koup.[/QUOTE]
although i agree on the expensive insurance part, ill have to disagree with not getting it for a first car. Your best bet would be to find a used 2010 and like mentioned maybe an ex or possible an sx sedan (as sedans are generally cheaper).... the value drops fairly quikley and my fully loaded sx koup was only $15000, so you should be able to shop around for a good deal. But i think kias make great first cars! my first was a spectra5 sx and loved how fun it is. plus with the standard tec the fortes come with they are great in the winter, reliable, and fairly good on gas.
tisk tisk aluus: pushing ppl away from KDM
lol n1ck the quattro is pretty fawkin sweet, cant lie, but im down for a koup, and is the insurance honestly that bad? i mean damn its a kia. i dont mean there like bad or anything, but its not a Rx-8 or genesis
we have 4 cars on our plan now, and my parents have been with the same company for like 20 years so idk, they will figure it out, but i will have to deal with it later on
sweet, i mean im looking at this 2010 mustang GT and was like damn, i would pull so many ladies. but i mean idc, if the insurance was the same and the financing my dad would probably let me choose, and i would probably take the mustang because of the speed, the koup is siiick though, time will tell
Now if you are seriously looking at a mustang go for the 2011+, they have a better engine than the 2010 which was still using the older one. The V6 2011 has almost as much hp as the V8 2010...
It's your decision in the end though, as long as your parents are cool with it. I've had my Koup for a few weeks now and I like it a lot, but do miss a few features my 2010 Focus had that the Koup doesn't, but that's all tech stuff. The Koup is definitely quicker than my Focus (no surprise there lol), which I'm glad, but it's still practical, which is important to me because I drive mostly city and we get snow & ice so when winter comes around I need to be able to drive, and RWD just wouldn't happen lol (otherwise I would own a Mustang right now )
If there's any advice I can give you it would be, do a lot of research and make sure you buy a car you will love.
Stick with whatever car you have for now, even if it's not the best of cars. If it's still in good shape and running just be happy you have it. Honestly though you're 16. Time college hits you'll wish you saved that money and drove that older car. I don't even bring my car to college cause of the amount of drunk drivers + terrible drivers around campus. You're parents will thank you later as you'll save them a ton of cash by doing that, then you can get whatever car you want post college. If I had that a4 quattro I'd keep it and add some things to it.
ok, so wallyg, it looks as if you're me 1 1/2 years ago. The koup (2010 sx) was my first car, got it for my 16th birthday. holy shit do I ever love it.
My dad also wanted the warrenty, so thats why I got it, otherwise I probably would have gotten a car that would be alot cheaper on insurance. My insurance was $3400 a year on my parents plan, and thats after the discounts that I get (driving school, good driving discount, over 80% average in school discount). Sucks that I got a speeding ticket this summer, my insurance will go up to about $4000.
I've raced my buddies at school as Im sure everyone on this forum has done, but honestly its more fun to have a car that youre proud of then to lose it to the cops or to an accident from one night of stupid driving.
Hear me out, take care of your car and it'll take care of you. Winning isnt everything. Just enjoy it. Doesnt matter if it's a 2013 koup or a 96 civic. More then likely you'll be part of the 25% in your grade that acctualy have access to a car if you get one. If you have the extra money, have some fun with it and make your car special to you.
Haha he's like me exactly 4 months ago. Debating between a car I had and new car. Had to actually make the decision for a new car strictly because my honda's transmission was going. Went through 4 drivers (all in the family) and 200k, but that car looked as clean as it was fresh off the lot no mods, but plenty of fun. I mean sure you can race rarely on occasion, but please don't make it a selling point of the car. It may cost you eventually and it just isn't worth it to do it. If you're parents are highly interested in the warranty...look around for certified pre-owned cars; they should have around 30k on them...these will be their lease fleet coming back and it's an ideal time to grab cars for relatively cheap compared with new. Bear in mind it'll be a 2010 at the moment, maybe a 2011 if you can find it.
actually a lot of dealerships are about to put all there 2012's on huge discount to move them for the 2013 models, its proven the best time to get a deal is between oct and dec as there trying to make room on their lots, thats how i got a killer price bought mine last nov
so ive been looking around, yes i love the koup, but i still need to call my insurance agent, i want to see what the rates are for like camaros, challengers, and what not, i know the rate will probably be a lot higher than the koup but i will be on my parents plan which they have had for like 20 years, and we insure 4 cars now, so im not sure what the rates will be, tomorrow i will find out
