I bought my Factory Remote Start from Gary Rome KIA in CT. In early June, I finally got around to installing it MYSELF. The installation manual is VERY detailed, and the unit installs as advertised.
Like others have said, the functionality of this kit is fabulous! Not only do you get to 1)Remote start, you also get 2)Complete alarm for the engine compartment, the passenger compartment, and the trunk! 3)You can leave the car running at a store while removing the key. 4)You can pre-warm or pre-cool the vehicle before entering (good in COLD winter or HOT summer!!). 5)You can turn on the rear-window/mirrors defrost remotely too! 6)As Wraith points out, you also can pop the trunk with the remote.
I use it to pre-warm the engine most days. I find it handy as hell; the unit is set up so NO one can drive your car away without the key in the ignition. NO cutting of wires is required, but you DO have to make some 3M ScotchLok splices (the manual describes it ALL). If you ever installed your own radio in the dash, you can install this too. It took me about 5 hours total (I took my time AND took some digital photos). The ONLY thing you really need is some extra auto-trim tools which can easily be purchased at Harbor Freight Tools for under $10.
One thing - this remote ONLY works with the auto transmission. I highly recommend it to ALL Forte auto owners!!!
