So I have been looking into upgrading the exhaust on my 2.0. I was really pleased to see that the Forte comes with mandrel bent tubing from the factory! It is 2", but mandrel bent nonetheless. I considered a cat back system, but was concerned about torque loss with a bigger pipe. I thought about going 2 1/4", but if it would be crush bent, the 2" mandrel bent exhaust would actually flow better!

I set out to replace the stock muffler and resonator. I didn't want an obnoxious, loud sound. The exhaust guy I went to put the car on the lift, and checked the resonator. Turns out the stock resonator is straight through! No performance gain would be realized by replacing that. All that was left was the muffler. I went with the Magnaflow, and am very happy.

Sounds great with throttle wide open, seems to work well with my simple "factory" ram/cai mod, and no torque loss!

The exhaust is nearly silent at highway speeds, no annoying drone. Also, the exhaust has a nice deep mellow tone. Even the exhaust guy remarked that it sounds great, not at all like a "rice can" as he put it.

Simple, cheap effective! $130 out the door including parts, labor, tax.

I'll post pics soon, hopefully a video to follow as well!

You think it would be stupid to get a magnaflow muffler with a CAI? would that defeat the purpose of the sound the CAI makes or no? And does this void the warranty?

Well since the CAI isn't going to give A LOT of performance, I mainly like it for the ballsier sound. I'm just afraid to get a muffler cuz I don't like when they're too loud and obnoxious like all of these ricer civic kids who think a cherry bomb on an 89 civic is awesome. So if someone with a CAI AND muffler could maybe post a sound clip/video that'd be cool.

LOL! Busted!

I haven't actually heard a Cherry Bomb on this car in person. I always say to each his/her own. The reason I went with the Magnaflow is that I wanted something that had improved performance over sock, bit was still quiet enough to keep my kids sleeping in the back seat! I'm happy with my choice. How do you like the Cherry Bomb?

Well, it was a really weird choice i kno, but i absolutely love it the sound is a little raspy at the high rpms but that should be fixed when I get my CAI. I love the idle sound! And i wanted something that sounded deep and intense. :D I got what i wanted! lolz

upgrading your exhaust piping to 2 1/4" will not cause you to lose power.
you can even upgrade to 2 1/2" and be good. Upgrading to a better flowing resonator and a better flowing muffler (Straight thru > chambered) well help you as well.
A free flowing exhaust is best. People say that upgrading the diameter of the piping may cause you to lose to power due to it causing less back pressure but its not true. you dont need nor do you want back pressure from your exhaust system.

I agree that upgrade to a MANDREL bent 2 1/4 might work well. I just don't think a crush bent 2 1/4 works as well as the factory MANDREL bent 2". There are no mandrel benders I could find in my area and the cat back is 2 1/2" I believe... and $600.

The stock resonator is straight through. There is NO performance increase with changing the stock resonator and keeping the 2" pipe. It only makes sense to change the resonator if you change the pipe diameter or want a different sound.

I am not concerned about top end horsepower. I know that a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" Mandrel bent exhaust will increase top end horsepower, but you may lose real world usable torque by doing so. Increases in horsepower do not always go hand in hand with increases in torque, and the RPMs that each of those peak at is important to be aware of.

I am not saying I won't ever change to a cat back system...I'm just saying that on a naturally aspirated 2.0 the cost/benefit differential wasn't worth it to me. I am happy with this current setup for now.
