ok. so my deal is i need some help identifyin wires under my dash. i've got a DMM (digital multimeter) and know how to use it. only problem is i've found what i think is a 12v source. and a spot the looks like a ground to the frame (2 black wires with ring terminals screwed to frame). has anyone had any success locating a correct ground and correct 12v source WITHOUT completely disassembling the dash. and please dont send me to kiatechinfo. that shit is useless for this.

any help would be much appreciated.

First and foremost, if you measure between two points, while the car is running, and get 12-14.4 volts you have located a +12 volt line and a ground.. Test it again with car the off and the keys out of the ignition to know if it's accessory powe.

As I said in my pm, the lighter circuit is one you can use. Remove the panel to the right of the pedals, the lighter assembly had a connector behind it so you can undo stand split it with a splicing connector.

believe it pops.. KGIS may be more helpfull... been a while. As for it not working, did you try swapping the wires? LEDS are "polarized" meaning you have a 50% chance of hooking them up correctly if their positive and negative aren't labeled, or you are unsure what the wires are that you are tapping in to.

You need to set the DMM to DC Current, usually looks like

Yeah swapped. And was set to dc. I'm kinda baffled as to why it would say 12v and not power LEDs. Maybe there's not enough wire contact. The led came with some very tiny wire. Some like 30 gauge or something.

The gauge of wire is due to the extremely low current requirements of LED's, and has practically nothing to do with much else. Check your connections, check polarity, check that the fuse isn't blown from when you accidentally "jumped something that one time really quickly".

Depending on the method used to splice into the existing wires, that's where wire size for the LED's may come into play, I suppose. Check that you have continuity through the connector.

just pull the center console out a little bit and look at the ciggarette lighters....

it's easy, there's a few screws on the side of it and 2 bolts under the matting at the bottom of the flip up console holding it in, take all them out and your ready to pull it back so you can get to the cig. lighters. Then they have clearly marked red and black wires, indicating positive and negative feed.
