New Forte - Questions about steering / controls (cruise, flex, heated)

I am getting ready to do the DIY cruise install (follow this thread: http://www.forteforums.com/forums/d...-articles/39906-air-bag-removal-adding-o-e-cruise-control-non-equipped-car.html), but ran into a few questions.

On EBAY, all the wheel controls have the flex steering button:

As I understand it (from one of the Korean sellers), the button on the upper right are for flex steering. The bottom right are for the advanced cluster setup. I'll replace the switches on the bottom right with my old steering trip switch (per thread listed above).

Questions:

1) Do ALL Fortes have electric power steering (EPS)?

2) Assuming they do, I assume the flex steering is just a tweak of this EPS system. If this is true, what would it take to get this to activate? Do I just need a new clockspring? Are there technical information anywhere about this system?

3) Where can I find the wiring diagrams for these steering wheel setups? I assume I'll need to tweak whatever harness I purchase to match my model and which wheel switch setup I purchase. As I understand it, most if not all of these programs are in the car's computer, you just need the wiring and switch to activate it.

4) Anyone have a source for the advanced cluster? I think there are three types - the cheap one on the base LX (monochrome), the another one that is LCD and color (I think the display in horizontal instead of vertical) and then the one for the UVO system that requires a bunch of other pieces to function correctly. I would like to get the middle level cluster if it isn't $2000... Or $1000... Or $500...

In my mind, I should be able to get the new wheel switch and harness, plug it in and my cruise (proven to work but cluster light is not there) and flex steering (haven't seen anything about this yet) would work if I get the wiring correct.

Any info would be appreciated. I'll post complete write ups as I complete these projects.

Switch your key to the ON position and look at the dashboard. Watch for an orange or red light saying EPS. It should clear away after a second or two. If it doesn't come on you haven't got it.

2) If it's anything like the cruise control, then all you need is the button. On some Kia Rios the cruise control didn't come installed (it's an option). Owners added cruise control by taking the steering wheel apart and installing the relevant set of buttons, on other situations, some changed the complete wheel. No clockspring was needed.

That said, you might need a new clockspring. Go to any Kia parts site that has assembly diagrams and part numbers, select your model and locate the clockspring. If there are several clocksprings, then there is a possibility that you have to change it. I'd look for a new part on eBay first.

I am just talking about similar cases, I don't know about your specific case, to be honest.

Grab as much info as you can. I don't think this site will stay online for too long. Kia's going to legally threaten them some day, I bet.

4) In my little experience, anything that goes close to the airbag system is expensive as fuck. For example the passenger side airbag cover. The upper B pillar is cheap though... But the crashpad and the cluster are just going to be too expensive to be practical, in my personal opinion. Don't bother. Just get an ultra-premium aftermarket radio and do its installation very professionally.

You seem like you want to go an extra level on the trim... Dude, just crunch the numbers, it could be cheaper to sell this car and get the next trim up!

If I were you, I wouldn't do #4, just the other ones.

P.S. extra tip, get a steering wheel puller, one with the M8-1.25 screws. This one worked for me on a 2010 Forte:
