As if the Forte is the hottest stolen car...
It's not. The news just makes it seem that way. 1500-class trucks from the big 3 and Japanese sedans still top the charts.

Good question because the one's I've got quotes from are all higher than my current policy. And one was from a company that does it by mileage. I don't drive much, 6000 in one year on the Forte and 3500 miles in a year on the Soul, and it was still higher than my current policy. Geico was only a few dollars every 6 months higher than my current insurance for the same coverage and it was the only one I found comparable. Currently I have Liberty Mutual and pay by the year in full.

Man I feel like a banned breed of dog.

So you buy a new Kia and find out after that it can't be insured...then what?
There is always an insurance company that will cover you.$$$$$$$$

is that true?
Like 10 were almost stolen this week in my region.
Mine was almost stolen. I didn’t take this issue seriously enough. I should have had a club on.

The problem right now is the KiaBoyz fad is making the news so there is a lot of knee-jerk reactions happening. I’m not saying the problem isn’t bad it’s just that it’s pretty high profile. The other thing to consider is that it’s not just the Forte that’s being targeted.

As a whole, the other vehicles listed in that list are long term targets. Those vehicles are stolen day in and day out all over the country. They are being stolen for the value of parts and to use those vehicles in other countries (mostly Mexico). The Kias that are being stolen are purely and simply for the thrill of stealing a vehicle and being general dumbasses. Almost every Kia is recovered but damaged - some severely. That’s the reason for the insurance rate hike.

Not every area of the country is being hard hit. It’s mostly bigger cities where crime is mostly being overlooked due to the inability of the police to combat it effectively. You can blame that on the morons in charge of budgets.

The best thing you can do now is just put deterrents in place, park in a garage, and just general vigilance. You obviously live in a targeted area. Good luck.

Yeah it sucks.
It’s happening in the suburbs around here too. The Buffalo-Niagara region is about a million plus. They got 15 year old kids the other day and basically let them go with just tickets.

I don’t have a garage to park in (most people don’t around here) , just possibly a back yard.
I have a club, I am getting one of those steering wheel seat belt locks and a car alarm. I hope those 4 things will keep it out of trouble. But I’m open to suggestions.
My car was hit up literally a block from where I live. I like an idiot didn’t have the club on it when I left it alone for 2 hours, during the day. And boom.
Policing around here sucks and crime like this gets overlooked.

what’s interesting is that I walked down my street (it’s long with several intersections) and there were several Kia’s and Hyundais parked. I only saw a club on one. I’m also pretty confident that most of them had key ignitions. So it’s likely only a matter of time.

I sorta wonder if I was targeted though or if they noticed it was parked where it normally wasn’t?

I sorta wonder if I was being watched or something. But there really isn’t much I can do if I see random people in cars just sitting at the end of block. I don’t think you can call the cops for that, and if I did nothing would happen.

I really don’t want to sell the thing. I put new tires and breaks in it over the fall, so it’s extremely frustrating. I also really like the car.

Is anyone aware of cars being stolen with the club?
It's possible, and easy enough to defeat. The point mostly isn't to prevent theft by direct means, but to deter thieves because it's too much work, so they'll just move to the next car.

An after market alarm system and the club should be enough to prevent your car from being stolen.

Are you opposed to throwing a car cover on your car when you park it (at least overnight) secured with a pad lock?

Also if you park in the same general area I would suggest parking in different places day to day

Nope I’ll do anything, a car cover would be too obvious where I live though

Yeah I am exploring my options. My car has been at the dealership since Tuesday evening. They haven’t given me an eta. The ignition is jammed and I couldn’t even get the key in. I have a feeling it’s gonna be a couple weeks.

What’s so annoying about this issue is it’s kids preying on poor and working class/lower middle class people.
It’s so incredibly stupid. Like kids join a sports team or something. Two of these kids ended up crashing and dying a few months ago here.

The St. Louis and Chicago TV stations have been airing multiple stories about poorer victims losing their jobs over lost cars, missing important medical treatments, and having severe financial problems. One would think that with this coverage the thieves would show empathy to their victims. My mom used to say when you've lost your conscience you've lost your soul.

Mom is right. The problem here is this new generation - and leaking into older generations - is the “me” mentality where only you matter. No one else. Society has degraded to a point not seen in modern history. And it will only get worse.

I'm in the process of figuring out what I want to do.

I had my back glass broke out a week or so ago and now i'm thinking of de-badging the car. I'm gonna remove the forte and gt-line badges with fishing line and I'm debating currently on what front and back badges to go with. I want it to make people confused on what car it is rather than look like a cooler kia logo.

Any thoughts on where to get the badge and what to go with?

This is one weird one I found:

Here is another:

Could removing Kia emblems make it more difficult for law enforcement if it does in fact get stolen?
Is there a way to remove the forte emblem?

Kia badges pre facelift have tabs, so you'd need to replace them with a different badge. Post facelift, no tabs, so you can just pull them off and leave them off. Get some fishing line and saw at the adhesive underneath and they'll come off.

Also, not to sound blunt, but does anyone really think swapping or removing badges will actually deter anyone? I can spot a Forte based on light signature at night with no other cues, so in broad daylight, you'd think thieves would know what a Forte looks like, and you'd be wasting your money unless you like the debaged look or different badge. Just my $0.02
