How will Kia Forte perform with high mileage?

The most efficient model is the FE, which has a combined range of 35 mpg and can travel 41 miles per gallon on the highway and 31 miles per gallon in the city.

 

Miles - 118,000 (Domino's delivery driver)
Year - 2019 Forte EX
Driving Style - About 75/25 (City/Highway) and I'm in Southern Oregon so it's pretty hot in the summer and gets below freezing in the winter
Maintenance - Oil change every 5k (Pen Platinum Synthetic 5w20), Techron additive every 6 months, intake filter every 30k, brake fluid flush at 100k, going to be doing spark plugs any day now (NGK Iridium), and probably more I'm just not thinking of.
Problems - I had my IVT replaced at around 30k under warranty, there's a weird rubbing sound when I turn the steering wheel (there's a TSB out for this but I'm out of B2B warranty so I just tolerate it), the "leather" on my steering wheel is worn all the way through and looks like crap so I put a cover on it, the "leatherette" seats on the driver side has cracked and has multiple large holes in it, my blower motor got replaced around 35k under warranty because it was squeaking at low speeds, both torsion rods in the trunk broke at about 80k and I replaced those myself, I'm due for new front struts so I'll be doing those in the next couple months (my camber is off sightly on my alignment because my shocks are sagging a bit and they can't get it back to perfect without installing new ones), I have a P0420 code thrown because I burn about 2-3 qts of oil every 5k and it's ruining my catalytic converter, I know it sounds like a lot but the car has been pretty reliable knocking on wood and I'm sure it'll get me to 200k no problem. I wouldn't be surprised if I hit 300k before the wheels fall off.
Worn Out? - Like I said, my struts are worn out and I can definitely feel it, the drivers seat and steering wheel are awfully bad, transmission feels strong still and same with the engine. I'm sure some steering components will need replaced soon but it doesn't feel like its worn out per say. She still feels really good to be honest.

2020 kia forte gt-line - just crossed 68k miles. 0 issues outside of a squeak in passenger side suspension, recalled steering column, and transmission update 3 months in (bought in oct 2019)

 

My 2017 S will turn 12,000 miles in a month or so low miles, and hope it lasts me a long time at least to 120,000 as I may take some longer trips in the future

My 2017 Forte LX has 138,000 miles on it. Still runs like a top. My city/highway driving is about 50/50. I'm a fairly aggressive driver. I do maintenance when it's needed and change my oil every 10,000 miles with Mobil1 full synthetic and a Mobil1 104A filter. Other than regular maintenance like plugs and brakes, the only engine issue I've had was a failed coil pack around 90,000 miles. Cheap and easy fix. I could probably use some new struts, but it's not too bad. I don't hear any rattles or squeaks and the ride isn't unacceptable to my wife who's had 13 back surgeries. Her biggest issue is getting in and out of it. Next ride will probably be a Sorento.

• How do you handle maintenance? I do all the maintenance I'm capable of but the car has required very little so far beyond simple oil & filter changes, new tires and new battery. The only dealer maintenance was a service campaign to replace the springs inside the four ignition coils which I just had done and was free. Brakes were handled by my independent mechanic.

• What problems have you encountered and when? #1 problem is dim low-beam headlights. Starting around 2021, the bulbs started burning out and have been dim even when replaced. The beam pattern is correct and the reflectors/projectors are clear with no fogging. It's gotten so bad that cars behind me at night cast a shadow in front of me! Thankfully, the high-beams work great. The dealer just inspected the low-beams but (surprise) said everything was within specs. I plan to report this to NHTSA for a recall. The only other problems have been minor and easy/cheap to fix (fuel door sticking, water in rear lights) that resulted in TSBs; I replaced the parts myself.

what kind and weight of oil do you use

 

I'm ALMOST to 6k on the odometer...

 

I use Mobil1 5w20 full synthetic with a Mobil1 104A filter. I change my oil every 8-10,000 miles. I usually have to add about a half quart between changes. I can live with that.

 

My sister I.ln law has one with 380k something miles on it and still running with the engine almost falling out…bad brakes and axles..I want to say it’s an old forte to be exact. Year 2000 and something idk to be exact the car has no markings at all..just all silver

 

The Kia Forte generally gets good marks for its longevity. PepairPal, for example, rates the Forte above average and will probably last 150,000-200,000 miles with proper maintenance. Has anyone hit those miles? If so:

Yes I have a 2010 Kia forte lx. 154,000 miles 70% city 30% highway Live both cold and warm climate Oil change every 3,000 miles full synthetic oil with a quart of dura lube engine treatment. mice had some issues with sensors,fuel injectors. Etc. I replaced all sensors, injectors, car runs awesome. Slight tick from valves or lifters. no parts feel worn out. I replaced all parts regarding any parts that has potential to wear out etc; shocks struts rotors, calipers, all engine sensors, fuel pump,tune up, injectors, starter,alternator,water pump,tensioner,

 

Wow. That's investing in the longevity of your car. I think this is money well spent as you have a good older car that requires less money for taxes and insurance.

I'm curious, do you add the quart of Dura Lube in addition to the recommended number of quarts of engine oil? There was another thread recently talking about the effects of overfilling oil.

 

I'm sure that weedhopr has the highest mileage Forte. He's at roughly 600,000 mi.

My car has been trouble free except for 2 alternator failures. Other than that, all I've had to do has been normal, routine maintenance.

I got 300,000 out of my last Elantra so I expect to get 300,000 out of the Forte. I am up to 215,000 on my 2017 Forte. Mostly highway driving between Boston and Montreal. I get synthetic oil every 5000-7000 miles and change the transmission fluid every 50k like I did with the Elantra. At 100k or so it started misfiring on a cylinder so I had an ignition coil replaced and it was fine. The same thing happened at 200k. The 2 front wheel bearings went at somewhere between 100 and 200k. I took it to the dealer for the software upgrade that hopefully will keep if from getting stolen and they said it was in great shape. The only thing that is bothering me is that the headlights don't seem bright enough.

 

There was a recall on the ignition coils. The local dealership replaced all 4 of mine for free and my car was doing just fine. BUT, I'll take free coil packs for a dealer anytime!

Gen 2. At least I THINK it's gen 2. My 2017 had it and I wasn't even aware of it until I took it in for the ignition and air bag recalls. The replaced my trunk latch even though I told them NOT to as I'd done it 3 years ago myself. They didn't listen. BUT, I had replaced a defective coil pack last year and when I popped the hood and looked, sure enough, four new coil packs.

 

My 2016 KIA Forte just passed 392,000 miles. I am a Hampton Roads, VA Uber driver and bought the car to Uber with. All my maintenance is handled by Casey KIA. Original engine and transmission. I still get compliments from Uber Riders on how it looks and runs.

 

Weedhopper is the high milage champion & still has his Forte.

Just hit 180k on my car but it's also my 3rd engine which has roughly 50k miles on the engine.
1st engine Rod bearing went kaput @ 104k about a month after I had it inspected for the recall defects.
So I called them up & said " I think you mised this one!" 😂 But thank God they agreed to replace it. I'm going to run this car until the wheels fall off & I'm pretty much overkill in regards to care &: maintenance. Good luck everyone!!! Ttyl8r!!! 😎 👍
